I’ve been notified by my manager over text that they have apparently received a penalty from the retailer for my place of work being opened an hour late (the lateness is true, I was an hour late and this is my first time being late to an opening). As such, they have said that this penalty will be deducted from my wages this month.
I have asked for the amount of this penalty and for confirmation of this penalty notice but have not yet received this. My contract also doesn’t contain any information regarding pay deductions.
Can they in fact deduct my pay? I have a feeling they can’t but again, I don’t even know if they have received a penalty notice.
