I work in the south at a private university. Have been there for two years and I am associate director. I make 46k and have had the same pay the entire time, even though my scope of responsibilities has significantly changed. I guess I assumed it was normal with university—everyone is underpaid. But recently I found out that another employee of a lower ranking makes 40k. We basically take home the same amount each pay period, but I am salaried and they are hourly. They are also having performance issues that my supervisor has been open with me about. Whereas I have had two excellent annual reviews. In my last annual review we vaguely discussed a title change and compensation change, but nothing concrete has been decided unfortunately.
Part of my duties is approving time cards—yes I should have not agreed to do this task without more money, and this pst week the coworker and I both had to work extra, but she was approved for overtime and comp time, and I only comp time. Essentially she will likely take home more than me for the overtime, and I really feel that I worked harder during this busy time. I felt totally unappreciated and honestly low approving someone’s time card that likely was going to be more than my paycheck.
I am planning on having a discussion with my supervisor this week where I will explain how I feel that I’m not fairly compensated. I guess I just needed to rant here as this has really bothered me the last few days.
