Update – Notice Given

Original here UPDATE : Notice was given. I took a week of PTO and then Planned to give notice of 2 weeks. I checked the handbook and found that they are able to pay out 50% of your PTO if the last day worked is on or after March 1. Ok. I can work with that. I’m the only one on my team with my specific job duties and have the longest tenure for my specific job title (other positions are under this teams umbrella and have much more seniority—15-30+ years). UPDATE : Notice was given.

HOWEVER – over the last summer they updated their Pto policy to state that Pto cannot be used to extend notice period AND they no longer pay out unused PTO.

When I asked about that, pointing to sections in the employee handbook that indicated otherwise (and I signed upon hire) I was told that they had not gotten around to updating the handbook or PUBLICLY MAKING THE POLICY UPDATE KNOW.

I realize the handbooks are not binding documents.

Im just blown away by the fact that NONE of my other coworkers (even those who have worked there 15-30 years) knew about this either.

So I have essentially said “understood. Bye.”

And have been getting updates from my (former) coworker who worked there for 30+ years about how the dept is now struggling and multiple other people are now considering leaving for both related and unrelated reasons. She is providing me with updates on how the team is reacting to the news and dealing with the workload increase now that I’m gone and only 1ish person even sort of knows how to process my job duties.

I’m fortunate enough to not be heavily impacted by a single pay period without a paycheck. We have two incomes and we save money. And I have a better job lined up for the 13th.
