Here is the original thread after it was resolved, or that's what I thought but turn out I was wrong: My boss fired me because he found out I was attempting to help my daughter with an abortion after she was abused, now I'm not sure how how to proceed : antiwork (reddit.com)
I figured that hopefully before running out of money and resources I could quickly get a new job and save (and hopefully move out of this state) for a rainy day, and was happy that my daughters pregnancy was stopped.
However, I have found out through a redditor also in my state, that the discrimination and lack of approval for abortions is likely a lot more common and widespread than I expected.
At work while going over applications for a position, this person overheard their boss talk about similar story about my daughter and me trying to get her an abortion, though he labeled me as a “child abusing extremist” for stopping my daughter from having a child from an abuser taking advantage of her.
I was contacted by this person on Reddit and they gave me the first and last name on the application their boss was discussing. I can confirm that it was indeed ME that he overheard her boss mocking with someone else, possibly my old boss who fired me after he found out I was attempting to get my daughter an abortion. Thankfully that still managed to happen.
But it looks like people across the smaller towns here communicate with each other. While that particular location is too far (I don't have the money to waste on gas going too far with no income) I find it concerning that there are people talking to each other on who or who not to hire based on political mindsets.
It appears I was specifically denied at that job because me helping my daughter get an abortion was seen as “harmful and ungodly”.
I then received just yesterday another msg from a different user, who said she heard a similar conversation about how they can't hire me because of an abortion. This time they asked me for my first and last name, I gave it to them and they told me it matches what they were able to pull up on the computer and my name was on the application, and verified the address on it to me.
I'm scared guys. I'm running out of money, running low on grocery and other necessities, the states social programs are all in shambles and if you can get signed up for one you have long waitlists where no one calls you for a long time. I need a job and income much faster, but if these employers are spreading word to block me from hire for nearby jobs I can reach, then I'm screwed. The only guaranteed job is a hands-on one but they require me to drive a decent length to the workplace, and spend around $100 on my own equipment which I can't afford to do.
As for all the closer jobs, I've received at least 13 denials, 4 interview cancellations (their end), and only 2 interviews with a “we'll call you” and I qualify for all of them and then some. I have 17 others that haven't contacted me back at all. Considering my location that's a bulk of the jobs I applied for.
It seems that I'm heading toward big problems all because I wanted to protect my daughter after she was purposefully abused, and these people are so petty that I helped my daughter eventually get her abortion they seem to be trying to block me from moving on with my life.
It's all very depressing. What is the point of this much distain? What if it was their daughters? Would they really let someone abuse their daughter and force them to have the baby? Seriously, this is too far. I just want to move on.
I'm already in a poor mental state now, I can't put things off much longer and am being pressured to find a solution as soon as possible without much breathing room, I need some form of income or help, and I have to be able to buy food and necessities. This whole thing is a disaster and considering the state I'm in, I have little, if any, options especially out here in rural town.
