I work for literally a massive company as a contract worker. I make ok hourly pay, and the job isn’t too bad, but I don’t have PTO, benefits, or any perks my coworkers do even though I’m in the office 40 hours a week doing similar projects to them.
As a contract worker, I signed a contract to work for this company for a year. A couple months ago my boss told me that they wanted to extend my contract for another 6 months and I would get a 5% ($1) raise for that 6 months.
Now it’s time for me to sign my new contract for the added 6 months and when I looked at it it doesn’t have a pay increase. I asked my boss and she said it’s because I don’t work for the company I technically work for a contract company and if I wanted a raise I had to send them an appeal letter.
When I reach out to the contract company they tell me that they typically don’t give raises of more than 2.5%.
I’m working with my point of contact with the contracting company and waiting to hear a response back on if I’ll get a raise and how much it would be (I asked for the 5% but don’t know if I’ll end up getting that if any) the company I work for can 100% afford to give me a dollar raise.
I’m just mad that my boss told me I’d be getting a raise and now I’ve had to do a bunch of work to get one and might not even get it. Not that the raise is much but the raise was the last motivating factor for me moving out of my parents house. I’ll be fine without the raise but it was nice having that extra cushion and I feel a bit robbed.
I’ll definitely start looking for a new job ASAP as I’m feeling a bit disrespected because of my status as a contract worker
