We pay market rates, but that’s a reflection of the market value for your position, not the value you bring to the company

So sick of being told my wages aren't a reflection of how much my employer values my work and my contribution to the team. They really think they're compensating for low standards of living by evoking a feeling of “you matter.” If I matter so much, you value me so much, you respect me so much, why would you knowingly pay me less than my value. You simply cannot value and honor a person if they are giving you most of the value they give you for free. Being aware that you're getting more value from me than you give to me in return, and thanking me for it when you know I either have to give my value to someone or starve, doesn't make it any less exploitative.
