Saw the below post in r/AITA (spoiler- she’s the asshole) and it really encapsulates the spirit of the entirely unreasonable demands from “we’re all family here” workplaces:
I 23F have 3 kids, age 3(girl) , 2(boy) and my youngest son being one. It’s been hard taking care of three kids on my own and their dad isn’t in the picture anymore as he’s decided to go a different path in his life.
I live with my mom and my sister (25F) who goes to college and barely works. She goes to work “maybe” 15 hours a week and on her free time she’s doing nothing but at home and I want to mention she does her college courses online, so 75% of the time she’s at home with me.
Yesterday, I needed a break and my mom never wants to help, so I reasonably asked my sister and she said she didn’t want to do it, I asked why and she had no reasonable explanation and when I kept asking she told me it was because she was going to watch her friend’s daughter in a few hours, time came and she never babysat this “friend’s daughter”.
At that point I was so frustrated that I was being lied to that I just asked her again if she’d watch them and I just put my two oldest in her room and I left with my son and I told her I needed a break and if she loved me, she’d do this for me.
My sister thinks I overstepped my boundaries but I don’t see how I could’ve when I’m a mom of 3 and reasonably needed a break.
