WFH Dispute Makes me feel like quitting

When I interviewed for a new job I was told that it would be 3 days in office and 2 days WFH every week. The position is over an hour from where I live and with rising gas prices I would not have taken it if it was in the office full time. I get paid about half the usual salary for a skilled worker (which I am) in my field but took the job because it’s extremely relevant to what I want to do for my career and thought it would be good experience. Immediately after starting in office I was told that actually I would have to work in office full-time. I explained to my manager that I was told it would be part time at home to which he replied that HR was “working on a policy for this” and he would get back to me soon.…

I explained to my manager that I was told it would be part time at home to which he replied that HR was “working on a policy for this” and he would get back to me soon. Never got back to me about it. Two weeks later I got covid and told this same manager. Suddenly it was no issue for me to stay home and work, they sent me a laptop etc. worked from home for two weeks. During this time my manager told me that “off the record” I could probably start working from home part-time going forward.

Came back into the office this week only to receive a forwarded email from my manager stating that since I will not be working from home anymore that I need to bring the equipment back to IT right away. The icing on the cake is that everyone else in the office is allowed to work from home when they want. Both my managers work from home full-time permanently.

I am so angry and honestly considering quitting. I spend about a quarter of my salary on fuel at this point and am feeling like this isn’t what I signed up for. I wrote a stern email to my manager but just know I will get some snarky response.
