What do bosses have against chairs?

Please forgive me but I need to go on a rant about something that happened at work today. I work at a club in Canberra, Australia (Not a night club but the type with a bar, bistro, cafe and poker machines. The Australians here will know what im talking about.) This venue reopened just opened 2 days ago after closing its previous venue and reopening next door and I'm working there today at receptionist. The desk has been designed to be sat at and there's a chair in front of the computer. I sit down and start processing memberships at the computer. One of my Duty Manager sees me and says “don't let (big boss) see you sitting there”. I though that was weird. Am I expected to stand and hunch over the computer all day potentially injuring my back? Turns out I was because my duty manager comes by…

Turns out I was because my duty manager comes by again and takes the chair off me. I explain that it's a health and safety issue to be hunched over at a desk that is waist height.

They have now bought a standing desk attachment to use for now but are going to redesign the reception area so the reception area can stand and work there. But I just find it both infuriating and amusing that rather than have a receptionist sit at a desk they are going to spend thousands of Dollars in a brand new building instead of letting a receptionist sit down while they work at a computer.

Why do these corporate big wigs hate seeing employees sit down while working. They've refused checkout operators chairs for years because they think it looks bad. Is your image so bad that you'll risk your employee's physical well being just to present a certain image? Stupid question I know.

Sorry for a large rant on a somewhat minor issue, I know there are bigger injusticesin many workplaces, but it just really annoyed me today and I needed to get it off my chest.
