I have worked at the same company post grad for about 3 years. Basically, it has been getting consistently more miserable. The pay is fine and I like my coworkers alright. But basically the overall office environment is terrible.
Some examples of what make this such an unpleasant place to work:
1. I am a salaried worker and our hours are 9am to 6pm with a one hour lunch. If I come in as late at 9:05 I can expect to get in trouble. Also I am expected to stay until 6 every single day no matter how busy we are. Is that normal for a salaried job? When are you guys usually leaving for the day?
2. Office friendships/general fun is discouraged. There are no work happy hours or parties or lunches brought in. I feel like those things are done to help make the work week bearable!
3. Our boss is a crazy micromanager. To the point where he constantly corrects our grammar in emails. He is always watching over our shoulders to make sure we have something to work on.
Those are just a few examples but overall the environment is come to work, keep to yourself and you better stay busy.
Basically I am just not sure if I am being too picky and should be grateful to have a stable job. Is this normal? Will I quit and go to another office with the same/similar problems? Does everyone just hate their work day and feel constantly undermined and under appreciated by their boss and just deal with it to make a living??
