When Beggars Became Choosers

I live in a small city well k own for having panhandlers who have homes, cars, and seemingly no trouble making ends meet. They have, understandably gotten a rather nasty reputation. A few years back one was squatting outside a fast food restaurant and the manager decided to go outside and offer them a job, when asked the wage the panhandler declined saying he makes more begging. Incensed, the manager snapped a picture and put them on blast on every local social media page. My conservative leaning city, me included at the time, began to rail against them. No more. When a man can sit outside with a cardboard sign and a cup and make more than 8 hours as a fry cook then it says far more about a lack of pay than it does a willingness to work. Companies, pay your employees a living wage. Employees, join or form a union. Fuck this substandard quality of life earning 1/3 a living wage.
