Labor Law in Guatemala was established in the 50s. Salaried employees get a 13th salary, equal to the ones received every other month, and employers often pay it no later than December 15th. (Although the law says they can pay 1 half in december, and another no later than January 15th).
Our economy hasn't collapsed. This was stablished in 1954. In the 90's, congress approved of the 14th Bonus, to be paid in July. Guatemalan workers, contracted by law, have two bonuses each year equal to a full monthly payment.
Each year around july/december we have a barrage of sales and advertising from companies, the economy is based around it. Everyone budgets it in advance, so we use it for down payments on cars, travel, an extra mortgage payment, christmas gifts, college tuition, clothes, to pay off debt or to save.
Good labor laws exist, a revolution is needed for it to happen, and the economy will not collapse. Remember this.
