Started at this job less than six months ago. They said this job would open doors for me in terms of progression. So I didn’t know I’d be the only employee to my boss, my boss had merged with another company and we all work in a tiny office with not enough desks and space. I use to wfh mostly all week except one day now my boss has asked me to come in 4 days a week. The issue is I don’t have enough work, my boss doesn’t ever usually come in himself and I’m meant to be shadowing him with clients so I can learn more and climb in my job position. but I can’t as he’s not in. I do the admin work but that takes me an hour or two and then I have nothing to do, I get all the work done efficiently as well.
I don’t like the office as it’s not enough space and the other company is way, way busier than me so I feel paranoid and self conscious. When I work from home, I just wait for work to get sent and complete it but I still have hours with nothing to do. I’m not sure why my boss has asked me to come in more just to do nothing? I don’t want to pester him because I’m worried he’ll fire me if he thinks I don’t have enough to do. Has he asked me to come in just to be a presence of his company on the office whilst he doesn’t want to come in? He said I’d get more responsibilities but that was a couple months ago. When I came in the other day I got asked to make tea and coffee for everyone (the other company, not my boss’s company) and it was slightly embarrassing. That was a day my boss said I had to come in, I came in thinking he’d be there too and he wasn’t and he gave me no work so I was available to serve people I guess.
