Why must employers make you jump through so many mental hoops?

Even for a simple retail job, it can be ridiculous even trying to get hired. I’ve had to just sit and wait for employers to get back with me. Waiting on 6 different places that are hiring; Not a single one has answered back. It’s always felt like my livelihood is on their shoulders, and they could care less. On the other hand, you have recruiters and hiring managers that will shove every single bit of information down your throat the instant you show interest. All of them are for jobs that you know are trying to grind you to the bone. It’s an overwhelming difference. It’s mentally taxing. I hate working, but I know I have to. The process of finding an actually decent job shouldn’t feel like the biggest hurdle. That’s why it turns me off the most.
