Why you should always verify your offer letter.

Story Time! I had a job working in the medical field as an on-site Emt out in San Francisco. The job was alright and good experience but the pay was really low. When I asked me boss for a raise he kinda flipped out and said your raise is coming and hinted I was ungrateful. Well, like anyone else would, I didn’t take that well. Especially since the raise was nothing and I was struggling just to get by (working 60-70 hours a week). So, I began looking for a new job. While searching I found a great job (I thought at the time) and applied. Sure enough I received an immediate response and was interviewed right away. I was told I was more then qualified and that they would send me an offer letter right away. I asked her what the pay/hours were. She respond that the pay was…

She respond that the pay was 20$ an hour (good money in AZ at the time, better then 10$ as an Emt) and it was full time. Being ecstatic about the whole thing (because I was going back to 40 hours and better pay for where I would live) I just signed the offer letter immediately, not even thinking I what was going to happen next….

After I quit my job I paid for all my stuff to be moved from CA NorCal to AZ PHX. Rented a place right next to the job (which was in maricopa, that place sucks, FYI) and felt things were great.
Went in on my first day of orientation and was confused as the orientation was all about security… I thought, “maybe this is just standard corporate protocol.” After the orientation I sat down with an exec and she gave me the final details of the job with an additional document showing me the pay. And guess what? The pay wasn’t 20$ it was 16$…. Obviously I was outraged and confused after moving my whole life with my own expense to be lied to. She apologized for the confusion and said, “well, do you want the job or not.” I couldn’t believe how heartless this woman was after I explained everything I did.

So, I had to take the job since I had no way for income to pay the bills and figured it’s better then nothing. Well it gets worse…. I go to the job site to get on-site training the following week and was trained by fire fighters (which actually was good since they worked at fire departments and did this on the side for cash). Thinking things were going to be good this happens. I ask for what my schedule would be an he shows me I would work 24 HOURS IN A MONTH, not a week a fucken month. I immediately contacted the company asking them to explain themselves and they said they would fix it….. they never did, they just ignored it.

So I’m sure your asking what I did next? That’s simple, I fucken quit and told them to literally “go fuck themselves” and did Doordash till I could find a job. 2 weeks later they contact me and asked me if I was quoting or not…. I just hung up the phone….

Anyways, don’t be like me….. READ YOUR OFFER LETTER!!!!
