Work from Home Is Not the Goal

Work from home is bad for workforce solidarity, further segregates society, and privileges a select group of PMCs to disinvest from city centers. It’s a bad solution to unsatisfactory work conditions and in the end will serve bosses more than labor. If the problem is childcare – then we need childcare for all. If the problem is elder care – then we need elder care for all. If the problem is commute – then we need cities with better public transportation infrastructure, better housing options. If the problem is hours – then we need shorter work weeks. Work from home allows a privileged section of the labor force to disengage from these struggles while the rest of us continue to deal. It isn’t a solution, it’s a problem.
