Okay I need advice: my boss has been making comments about me for the past several months- anything from “oh look, we have a megaphone” when I said hi while clocking in to “don’t shake your fking head at me!” And “don’t look so f*king confused, I know you’re not” when I was genuinely confused by his reaction to the word no.
Things have gotten a lot worse, and on Wednesday I had to go to the hospital. I told him I was leaving and when he asked why I said that I had to go to the hospital and see a doctor. He looked me up and down, laughed, and said “really?” I repeated that I was leaving, had to go to the hospital and see a doctor, then clocked out and left. I’m bipolar and have been terrified of being hospitalized my entire life, so this was huge for me. I also don’t have a support system here anymore.
I’ve been documenting things like this for months, and about two weeks ago or so, I was so low that I talked to 988 for several hours. It’s become an increasingly toxic and volatile workplace, and the psychiatrist I saw when I checked myself into the hospital gave me a note saying I was not to go back to work until Tuesday. I sent it to him and my other coworker who I manage and haven’t heard from either of them. Frankly, I’m scared to go back and don’t know what to do. There is no HR department since it’s a company of 8 people. Any advice about my boss? I have been interviewing and applying for new jobs for about 4 months.
