I started a new job a few weeks ago. It’s only interim employment while I wait to start a job where the process can take 6-12months.
Now this current job issued me with a works phone. Last night at 7pm my ‘boss’ tried to call me and when I didn’t answer he text asking if I was able to work on Sunday despite being pencilled in as being on a rest day.
I was out for a few drinks in the evening and do they expect me to take my work phone with me everywhere?
I said I had plans, and now I’ve looked at my calendar and my rest day has been changed to ‘unavailable’ which I already know they’ll use against me if I don’t hit the guaranteed minimum hours worked so they can pay me less.
Then after getting back late and intended to have a bit of a lie in. I stupidly left my work phone in my bedroom which went off early in the morning. This time it was a request to phone if I was ‘awake’
They wanted to know if I could work that day too.
Finding it hard to appear to be flexible and willing with the same time have having boundaries.
