My wife recently started working at home dept as a cashier. Pay is our state min wage of $13/hr. She's part time, nights and weekends. Just doing it to bring in a little extra cash until another job opens up.
Well they are so short staffed that they are powerless when she says “I'm not coming in tomorrow” or she calls “I'm going to be 30 minutes late”. She has done both more than once because of her being sick.
She told the manager yesterday she is not coming in today because it is Easter. All he really said was…”ok”.
Not sure if there are going to be any long term repercussions or anything but not once did she get pulled aside and get a “talk” about being late or calling out.
In fact someone from another dept is lobbying for her to put in for that job that pays $2 more an hour and she will not have to deal with customers.
