Working in the US and getting pregnant feels like a crime.

I am so shocked about US policies. There are not real laws and/or protections for pregnant people in this country. A lot of females hide their pregnancies due to fear of getting fired, targeted, demoted, etc. from their jobs. The “power” has been given to the states to decide if companies should have any concecuenses for discriminating a pregnant people. 80% of companies in the US do not offer and paid time for the mother to recover after giving birth. US has a Family medical leave act, that discusses 12 week of UNPAID leave for any reason, including maternity leave. That is just ridiculous. Also, the FMLA does not apply to all companies, the companies need to be big enough to be required to do this.

It just incredible for me to believe that even 3rd word countries like Colombia or Peru have better laws regarding this.
