I got hired for a landscaping company, very small company, one owner and 3 “employees,” however, the owner has all the employees as 1099 instead of W-2. I'm getting paid a few dollars an hour more than what would generally be offered for this position (I think?). That's unfortunate because it's physically demanding work and people should be appropriately compensated for the wear and tear on their bodies…instead of making low wages…but nevermind…
I'm wondering how to determine the difference between what I'll be taking away from my hourly wage as a 1099 vs a W-2. I'm not really in a position to find a new job but I'd just like to know. I get paid hourly not by the job. Technically I believe my boss should have us as W-2, but I'm not sure I want to start that fight.
