What do you do with lots of downtime at work when you have to be on premises? I got into a new field after leaving one that is notorious for employees being underpaid, over worked, having 0 breaks and insane staffing shortages. My new job is in a covid lab and now since things have slowed I have 4-5 hours a night where we have nothing to do, we're allowed to play on our phones, go in the breakroom and play uno or whatever, really. What do I do with this time? I never thought I'd have the problem where I'm bored at work but I really don't know what to do. Others have brought in laptops and literally game with their downtime. I've considered the idea of remote work but what is there available out there? I don't have guranteed nothing to do and we're mainly free in the…
Month: February 2022
a lot of people have been requesting off lately because of spring break coming up, and the management is pretty stressed with St. Patrick’s Day coming up. I requested off for spring break almost 2 months ago, and he said just last week that he is not accommodating for any call offs or request offs until March 22nd (that’s including those who have already called off). he says that we are “replaceable” and if we don’t comply, we won’t be on future schedules…. i, along with a few other coworkers who requested off early, already had my tickets and travel plans in place. we were initially approved!!! also, we are living in a pandemic!! how is he not tolerating call offs if people are sick??? the majority of his staff are also college students going through midterms. i am a college student, and this job, in the grand scheme of…
Has anyone dealt with this before? My employer has tried to deny giving me rest breaks and meal breaks owed and demanded by the state of CA and I’m not sure which claim to file. The business I work for is trying to exploit the local college kid population by not offering rest or meal breaks. Often kids here will work 8 hours straight with no breaks offered. I’m fed up with it. Any help is appreciated!
First I took one cause I had a Burnout and wasnt able to do anything mentally anymore. I got three weeks and they did help me to recover. The next months someone in my family died from covid and it was also the first time for me. My boss didnt care so i got another sick leave to grieve properly. He wants a personal meeting with me now cause of this which sounded like a threat tbh. And now i wanted to go to the doctor cause i have pain in my Hands for weeks which dont let me sleep properly. Although my company and my boss treat me like pure shit I still feel this guilt? I dont get it. My hands literally hurt and dont wanna move anymore and then I tell myself its just stress, i am weak, i can just pop pain killers. But at the…
Probably just gonna call in anyway.

Wtf… wages
I found out my job hasn’t been paying me the correct wage for over a year now. What can/should I do about this?
Would love some advice.
So I currently work in the IT/Helpdesk space. For all intents and purposes I love the job, it pays pretty well but not great and I know that I can make more money and get better benefits at another company or startup as I have well over 15 years in IT experience. But my problem is that though the money and over compensation is a improvement no doubt, I LOVE the people I work with. Specifically the guys in the IT team! We all get along great, hang out after hours, have an outstanding chemistry but I’ve lately felt disillusioned with the job itself. Has anyone left a gig that they thoroughly enjoyed all due to the money?? What was your experience like? How did you come to making your decision and what were some things that helped either leaving or staying? I’ve recently been in touch with an old…
Feeling hopeless, what can I do?
I'm working 10-hour shifts late at night from 1-11. I struggle to get to work without a car and I'm starting to lose my social life trying to get enough sleep for another workday, with no 30 min breaks it's putting an enormous amount of physical and mental stress I'm not ready for, causing me to vomit on my second day and calling sick on my third day. I want to quit immediately but it would make my at-work referrals look bad, and I don't have any other job lined up at the moment. What advice can a bunch of internet strangers give me? What can/should I do?
