If wages matched inflation..
I just did some basic math and am astonished… I made $10/hr when I was 14 in 1998. A raise of 7% per year would put me at $50 an hour. Fuck this economy.

Closing the gap quick
i understand the need for a 2 week notice for resignation, but not for not being able to come into work on a certain day. for context, this is my first job and i asked my manager if i could miss my shift two days ahead because my family had to drive to another city to pick a family member up from the airport who we haven't seen since before covid. she said no and that i need to give at least 2 weeks notice for when i need to miss a day of work. i'm in a casual position so this seems strange? it'd be more understandable if i was part time or full time, but i also work at a large retail chain where there's dozens of people in my department who could cover for me. what are your thoughts?
How is this fair?
Yesterday I worked a 12 hour shift, since the flight scheduled for 6am was pushed back to 11:15am. There was another also scheduled for 8:30am, which I was working. While I was waiting, I went to Dunkin's to get a sandwich and a drink for breakfast. I chatted with the sole cashier who was there at 6am, and what he told me was about the most frustrating thing I've heard. He's been employed there for about 3 years now. His sister was hired a year after. They basically run the two stores (one before and one after security) without much help from others. Other workers are there sometimes, but the past couple days he's been there either on his own or with his sister for 11 hours. When they are there, they don't do anything, letting he and his sister do everything. Callouts are dealt with, but when others call…
To be honest, it’s pretty anti-climactic. I really just told my manager I won’t be back because I won’t put people in danger. I will not work for somebody who encourages us to over-serve, literally at my risk. They just replied with “okay. Good luck, please turn in your keys by Friday.” That was that. I decided not to press charges against the guy who pushed me. The thing is.. He was just drunk, and I don’t want one bad night to potentially ruin somebody’s life. If he came in all the time and acted like this, and then I got hurt, absolutely. But he was somebody I’d never seen before and he just needed to go home and sleep it off, honestly. I reported the bar the BBB, and have left it at that. I already found a new job, same gig. All of my certifications and experience apply…
