We expect you to give 100%

This is such a stupid thing which for some reason every workplace puts in. It completely annoys me as it is similar to the american “how are you” where you answer “I'm good”. A completely redundant thing to say. Everyone will say “Of course I'm giving 100%” knowing full well they dont. I even had one stupid interviewer tell me she gave 110% today. I was like “Well that is not possible. 100% is the maximum. The only logical conclusion is that you only give 90% the other days” I didnt get the job obviously. Employers don't seem to understand how percentages work. 100% is maximum, if someone is giving you 100% it means they literally could not be able to squeeze out more. It is the barrier to breaking any moment. Everyone knows that nobody gives 100%, why do people always say shit like this. Just wanted to rant.

Update on the “scheduled for my birthday after being approved the day off” situation

Today I went into work with the intention of either making sure I get the day off, or leaving to find another job. My boss and I had a fairly lengthy conversation regarding the time off, and prior to her coming in, I went through the filing cabinet and found my time off request. I made a personal copy of it for myself and presented the original to her. My old manager, the one who had been fired, had approved it and never told anyone. So this was news to my boss. She still stood firm in the statement of “if nobody can cover, you’re going to have to work.” Fortunately, she ended up calling the coworker that has Friday off, and she was willing to swap her Friday for my Saturday. Shoutout to my amazing coworker for being there when I needed her most. I owe her big time.

Am I the only one that feels it’s in poor taste to see that a pro football player just scored an $87.5M 5-year contract when others here are scraping to survive?

Why do sports, entertainment, media companies, and personalities get paid millions/billions to distract and pacify the working masses?

Not sure management knows this is illegal and now the entire staff has this in writing. Should I ask to speak to them quietly and tell them they should revoke this rule, or just share the info with my fellow coworkers and inform them of their rights?

interview questions suck

Why is it normalized for interview questions to be a complete surprise for the interviewee? I don't understand why we have to spend hours preparing for every single possible “tell me about a time when” question, instead of them just sending a list of questions that will be asked ahead of time. They can always add ad hoc followup questions if they want a candid response… But wouldn't they rather see how a person can perform when they're prepared? It's impossible to have all scenarios at the tip of my tongue, and I'm exhausted trying to type out pages and pages of professional stories to reference in the off chance that the question is asked.

Getting re-orged out of nowhere

Well happy international women’s day to me… today I found out that since “sales makes too much money,” we are being re-orged. I was put into a new role that will make less money, without clear details on what the role actually is or where exactly my comp will land. It feels like a demotion. I worked for so many years to get into my current role – I loved my job. Loved it. Have never been notified of any performance related issues. I thought I was simply being re-aligned within my current team, not thrown into a new role that I had no interest in. I am so sad and frustrated. Working for 6+ years towards the goal of landing a role, finally landing that role, and then having it taken away without notice, along with the pay. IN THIS ECONOMY???????? I have no idea what to do next.…

Boss tries to seduce me with my benefits package.

Big post incoming. I’d add more but it’d be more ridiculous. I worked a graveyard shift 5-6 days a week, 4 pm to whenever we got finished which was normally around 4-5 am at a warehouse once I left college (another story entirely). I needed the money and I didn’t care to break my back for a little while. Mainly wanted to work there because a friend of mine worked there, so I went and got hired immediately. Essentially, I learned the job better than everyone except for my friend on a few things and my bosses. I filled in for people when they were out, I stayed late nearly every night, I came in at 1 pm to work on machines on Sunday’s, Friday’s I worked produce, and I learned how operate our old 1980’s computer software (wish I was kidding). Whatever the time, I could fill in for…
