Once upon a 1990's fairytale, I was told college is the key to a suck-sessfull future. So in 2005 I took the suppository pill and went. Fast forward seventeen years and tens of thousands of dollars later…still paying on that hollow degree to the college that closed it's doors due to NO ONE GETTING A JOB ON ANY DEGREE OFFERED…ahem… Sorry for the shouting. So I was bent over the barrel, no biggie, my fault. Well damnit, they inflated my loan and sold it. Then inflated it again…and again…now I have paid for what I borrowed and owe three times what I borrowed…still…grrrrrrr Ok. Now I have a decent job, pay taxes, pay FAMILY medical/dental/vision out of every check, pay rent/utility/car insurance/phone/internet/family plan co-pay insurance/food, and have nothing left….and expected to save for retirement/vacation/incidentals/medical. My dad volunteered to check out of life in 2001, at age 46. I am 42…
Month: March 2022
Today I joined our monthly management meeting (high level execs and directors), which most of the time is about 4 hours long. Meeting started at 10am and ended at 4pm. We got one 5 min break at 1pm to 'go to the bathroom and/or get some water' and that was it…no lunch break. By the time we were done I was starving, had a massive headache and was super anxious from sitting for so long. Afterward I realized that I couldn't be the only one that thought this was ridiculous, but why didn't any of us say anything? There were 12 people in the meeting, and while I'm fairly new to the company it really bothered me that this just seems to be accepted by everyone and they just deal with it as the norm. I ran into several people after that were grabbing some food finally, and everyone jokingly…
Just went through a McDonald's drive thru and it was 10:30pm (I've worked in fast food so I know how annoying late night orders get at the end of your shift) my girlfriend and the person at the window had a really enjoyable conversation and I liked the guy so I wanted to try to make up for being that annoying end of night customer and give him a 10 dollar tip but he looks at us with sadness in his eyes and says technically he could get in trouble with his work for accepting it, I asked him if it was because it was 10 dollars or what the rule was, and he goes on to say that they aren't allowed to accept tips at all regardless of amount Man I just wanted him to take my token of appreciation and fuck any restaurant that says their employees aren't…
Gas is expensive
We get it. It’s happening everywhere in the world. We don’t need a million posts about it
Nursing homes are the dumbest businesses
Here is a nice thing to learn. Nursing homes are primarily run by lots of Stands (state tested nurse assistants) which is a job that requires certification before being tested again by the state. Up until now most were paid around 12 or 13 an hour to literally run the show, wait hand and foot on old people, shower, feed, move, clean, change diapers, deal with tantrums, etc. Truly a thankless job that includes cleaning dead bodies. They have super high turn overs as people go thru all that to find out they will make kinda meh wages. Here's the kicker though, when they don't have enough staff, they turn to agencies, which unlike other fields of temps the agency stna will usually get paid double or more of what the sntas at the place get paid. These idiots won't give raises to the stand as a whole to keep…
Learned the hard way about modern scams and people taking advantage of the large influx of workers trying to find better jobs. I was offered a position at a company called Vault Strategies to be a virtual assistant. My responsibilities were to include using fund provided by the company to pay minor bills and vendor donations. Long story short, it was a lie. Now I am to begin dealing with the repercussions in my lapse of judgement. I saw the red flags, but ignored them in my pursuit of money. Greed got the better of me and listening to the lies fed to me, now I’ve completely derailed mine and my fiancées goals and plans for the near future. We are supposed to be moving to be closer to family and I’ve now lost all of the money I had to move. This is just a reminder to find ways…
constant social paralysis
A few days ago I quit my internship because I realized I was being exploited and having unreasonable expectations set on me and being blamed for not reaching targets that were shooting for the freaking moon. My boss just texted me saying to call him at my earliest convenience. The thing is, I don’t want to have anything to do with him anymore unless it’s files he may need but I know he is going to talk smack over phone and possibly just share his feelings (knowing him). What should I do?
