You know the ones. Either the ones with so much money they could feed an entire country, and the ones who never lifted a finger for their millions. I'm not afraid to admit I'm horribly jealous of them for living the best life they could for the cost of virtually nothing. I've been thinking about this lately. I grew up and still am in horrible poverty and it seems like there's no way out. I live in a very small town without a qualification to my name OR a working car, so job hunting is difficult. I'm constantly stepping further down the ladder while some asshole is getting even further up for virtually no reason. I don't want much In life. The “American grind” is not for me. I'm content with a modest lifestyle. As long as bills are paid I'm pleased. But I absolutely feel jealousy that these people…
Working for thin air.
For context, I work in Ontario for fastfood, and I have to go to a different store to help keep the students at kid rush organized. Which is fine, but today I found out that work wants me clocking out at one store and clocking in at the other when I go between them, which is 20 minutes pay I'm missing out on. And effectively I'm getting paid for 7 hours a day instead of my 7:30. Can they do this? Update: I talked to the floor manager over at the second store and she said that I should definitely bring it up with them and fight it. If nothing happens, I'll have every right to report them to the labour board. Thing is though, how do I ask them to get this clock out in one store, clock out at another in writing?
Office Space (1994)
It is crazy to me that office space is still relevant AND accurate to this day. If only this could be analyzed in management classes to show how shitty management could potentially result into the events of this movie. Edit: '99 not '94 sorry
At my current company, I work a hybrid schedule, coming into the office 3 days a week and working from home 2 days a week. During times when new variants of Covid peaked, I worked fully from home and definitely preferred that lifestyle. However, I do not have any issues getting to the office so it is not a huge deal to me, but considering my work is all on the computer it just doesn't feel necessary that I should come in. I am one of the younger employees in my office and am also in perfect health, so going into the office doesn't really negatively affect me apart from just being an inconvenience. However, I had a conversation with a coworker who has been with the company for around two decades, and is in his sixties. He has not yet gone into the office since the start of the…
This includes air, water, food, shelter, sleep, clothing, and reproduction. There is no logical reason why we exist in a world where we have access to an ungodly amount of wealth and resources, yet millions lack at least one of those things. It is simply immoral. In my opinion, the second rung, which includes personal security, resources, employment, health, and property, should be a right as well, but the first one is the bare minimum
