My boss is a dick
I had this old grumpy man who made me work for him for years and told me he is going to give the promotion that was meant for me to my colleague because the position that I am aiming for is not available that time… guess what, it magically appears to some people. I guess I did not get the vote.
Bring back small towns!
In the past 50 years or so all of the small towns scattered across the country have been dying due to everyone moving to be close to a large metropolitan area. There were no jobs in these small towns so everyone had to leave to support themselves. But now, with remote work, we can begin to revitalize these small towns that are in the middle of nowhere. Think about it. I've seen so many posts that say with remote work we don't need skyscrapers and large business campuses anymore… and it is true. If you move to a small rural town in the middle of nowhere land and housing is dirt cheap and you can still complete your job. Let our generation be the one to bring back small towns and let the cities die.
I hate waiting for the weekend.
I hate how much time work takes up in a 8 hour day(more like 10hrs with the commute). By the time I get home I only have 4 hours of relaxation before I have to do it all over again and even then, I'm just waiting for the weekend.
Started a job last Monday as a dishwasher first 2 days went pretty well cause the guy who trained me was really cool and had a “work smarter not harder” attitude. Wednesday comes and they ask me to come in early cause one of the other DW’s called in sick, I wanted to be nice so I said sure. I get there a minute late cause midday traffics a bitch in my town and I come in to an actual mountain of dishes towering over the sink. The previous DW just leaves and I’m stuck cleaning after his BS which is only the first thing that happened. Then a manager in her 60’s whom I’ve never met before comes in and tells me I’m washing and putting the dishes away incorrectly. I tell her I’m just mimicking the way my trainer did it and the dishes are getting washed faster…
New Boss, New BS
I work at a grocery store chain in North Texas as an overnight stocker. For a few months this job was great; it was right down the street from me, easy to do, we could listen to music as we worked, the benefits were better than any other place I'd ever seen and my coworkers and I quickly became friends. As soon as we got a new shift lead and the store manager changed as well, everything went to shit. Suddenly there aren't enough hours for everyone, and now they're timing us to get cases on shelves, and if we're not moving fast enough, “disciplinary action will be taken”. My last shift, we did work for two other positions without getting paid their working rate. Why are we doing the work of a manager but getting paid for stocking? I went from working five days a week, close to 40…
I’ve been in-office at my first professional job for about 6 months now. As covid restrictions lift there’s more and more mingling and team building events and office chatter. I’m a social person and I’m always excited to make new friends so I thought this would be great. My company is well known for having a great office culture. Most of my coworkers exclusively hang out with friends they met at work. But I fucking hate it. It’s so hard to tow the line between chatty fun and inappropriate. Showing a little personality, but not too much. I have to run everything I say over in my head a few times and I still screw up (like the time I accidentally joked about my abortion to my manager). I spend my Monday morning drive figuring out what to say about my weekend that won’t get me fired. I can’t say…
English is not my first language, so sorry for any mistakes. This was a few months ago when I was unemployed and needed any type of job – badly. A friend of a friend said that his work is recruiting and that it pays well, so I said “sure, why not”. FYI, it was an American company that was outsourcing in Europe. The friend of a friend told me to call him when I send over my CV and I did, then 15 mins later I was scheduled an interview for the next day. I thought that he had pulled some strings to get it going faster (which I hate when people do that) but he had no idea. I go on the interview, the person from HR was okay, but it was then that they seemed a bit fishy. They didn't walk me through my responsibilities, barely asked any…
If you are at all in a position to demand remote work, please do so. The bosses are hurting badly if they can make Biden go on TV and ask for something as deeply unpopular as trying to force everybody back to the office. Often bosses will give up extra concessions to get people back into the office. Some people will use that leverage to get as much as they can and take the on-site job. I urge you not to do this, if you can at all afford it – do not accept a return to the office under any conditions! Let's work together to kill the “culture” of on-site work and bosses treating us like children and controlling our lives. Let's drive the price of commercial real estate into the dirt. Remember the golden rule of fighting power: if they're crying, hit 'em harder!
