DONT EVER WORK IN SERVICE

Quick backstory I have been working at this restaurant, won’t say the name out of privacy reasons for owners. But basically I started as waitstaff and was told this week to come in early to help with meal preparation. The cheap bastards fired their chef so we need to “pitch in”. I agreed to come in early for overtime pay and they said that overtime pay is my right. I have never liked the owners but never hated them either. The customers are great. But this week I’ve realized that a service job is not at all about serving customers it’s about serving your fucking boss. This asshole tells me at the end of the week that I am not entitled to overtime pay, over a text. Furiously I call the guy and he doesn’t pick up. Apparently no one is entitled to it and the boss hasn’t shown up…

Find something that makes YOU happy

The title is super cliche but it's true. I was given this piece of advice all throughout my life. My dad always told me to find a job that I love doing and not for the money. Funnily enough his stance switched and he decided to force me into nursing school and to work in healthcare because it paid well enough and he told me he didn't want to see me struggle. I hated every second I worked in healthcare. It was an abusive environment, management was toxic and couldn't care less about you and your well-being. I quit my healthcare job after being there for 3 years. 3 years of misery and manipulation. I found a job doing something that I don't even think of as a job.
