For my job all I need is full time with benefits, $20 an hour, and gyaranteed weekends, even if its just the bog standard Saturday and Sunday. May I ask why even THESE SMALL NEEDS are too much to ask for?? My current job is making us work both Saturday AND Sunday!! What the actual fuck!? (Also, for ppl who wanna suggest that I organize a strike…uhmmm….how???)
Month: March 2022
I work at a car dealership (due to contract social media rules I am unable to post the name of the brand of photos) A customer brought in a service car which he noticed was missing the engine oil cap, i proceed to go in to find my manager and after walking back out there is smoke everywhere, this quickly turns to a fire in the engine and pops and bangs which we all evacuated the building from. After 2 hours of the fire force calming the fire and removing most of the smoke the dealer principle made the decision to keep us open and continue work as usual, mind you the melted vehicle is STILL in the parking lot and the smoke is STILL in our dealership which we can all smell and breathe in.
Just received a cease and desist ( on lawyer letterhead , nothing from a judge ) . So back to my original question, how long is a non compete valid for ?
Just had my annual review, aaand we’re lookin at 4% on a salary that’s already 25-30% below market rate because it’s my first in a new industry. The whole company of several hundred employees in a profitable industry is getting 4% raises against 7% inflation, and our health insurance went up a bunch for next year too.
Hello, I work as a mobile repair man for some specialized equipment, the company has two types of work. The first is shift work where you clock in at a certain time and clock out at a certain time and you get paid for that period whether you work the whole time or not. During shift work you are expected to leave your house to go to jobs within 5 minutes of receiving the call (you are getting paid to be ready to leave at a moment’s notice). The other type is on call work where you only get paid hourly when there are jobs and when there isn’t you go home unpaid. You are supposed to have 3 hours to get to a call when on call to account for you being out running errands or something and having to go home and change first, my boss has come…
Advice on work
Hey there, this is going to be a little long to read but I will try to summarize. Please stay with me, as english is my second language and maybe I commit some grammar mistakes. So, in December 2020 I got hired in a little shop close to the other I was working in, that had to be closed due to Covid. I knew the bosses and they were really nice: little family business, but everything went along law and nothing was shady. Everything worked awesomely, in December there's alot of work and we sorted the heavy stress of these times- as high season is October-January, the rest of the year is peaceful. But I don't know what happened, and everything went downhill and tense quickly this year: we had a met up starting January, where I was told I had to be more “profesional” and that everything has to…
Hi, I work as a programmer at some company and am currently facing one of the worst and most stressful situations I've ever dealt in my career. My job gives everyone a Mac to work with, I'm a long time Linux user myself. OK, I said, let's do this anyway. Now the company requires I install their apps with their standard installation method (using Docker). I cannot get for the life of me to get that thing to work, it's been like two weeks since I've been trying and the build method always fails at some point, I have requested help from my coworkers and all attempts were unsuccessful. Today one of the coworkers admitted he also can't get it to work, I have tried to do the installation of said app on my Linux machine (using a VM) and in just one day I could get it to work.…
Burnout in your industry
For some time now I have been noticing that most people in IT, my industry, burn out fast. Like they have barely 5 years in the industry before they leave to do literally anything else, most of the time unrelated. Guy who was my boss went to fix cars, a girls I worked with now teaches English, a friend now sells cellphones. Does this happen in any other industries? I feel like I have some wood left to burn still but I don't know how long I've got.
