Am I wrong here?

Sorry this is so long and I appreciate anyone who happens to read it and has any advice. My bf and I both worked as hourly employees at the same restaurant. I’m coming up on 4 years, he’s close to 10. He was promoted to manager and was told he’d be placed at a different store 45 min away, due to our relationship. After he left for training, they sent someone else to the other store in his spot and said he may return to our home store in which case, I’d have to leave. The training is 8 weeks total so I figured I’d be set at a new job by then. Due to my tenure and the fact I actually enjoyed my job here, I put time and effort into moving up and I never wanted to leave but I was willing to. Anyway, we just kept being…

A magical opening

I'm in solidarity with labor and support many of the views expressed here – but wanted to share that some companies still get it right now and again. I think my company just created a position out of thin air, so I don't leave. In this case though, it's the work not the company; I love what we do, they treat us well, and zero toxicity to be found. But I'm not really cut out for my current role long term. It was great for awhile, but became routine and monotonous- had a chat with my fearless leaders about it and next thing I know there is an internal posting that is me to a T. If this is true, and you see this; thank you from the bottom of my heart. Wish me luck.

i think my part time job is going to fire me because i won’t do free labor

im in grad school full time. & school is my main priority. i got a part time job in retail because obviously i need to pay rent & eat. when i interviewed for the job i was very clear about the job only being to pay bills. i told them i was in school & school came first. i told them with my class schedule i couldn’t work more than 20 hours a week. they hired me knowing that. my first semester of grad school they had me doing at least 30 hours a week & during my finals week i was working over 40 because that was in december so we were super busy for the holidays. after that i had a talk with my boss. i told her i would not be working over 20 hours again. she agreed & apologized for scheduling me more than we had…

Working 5×16=80 hours a week I make $50,000ish a year. Working 2×16 I make $29,000 a year. In 2 weeks I will return to having 5 day weekends and it is 100% worth the loss of $15k after taxes

Right now I have Thursdays and Mondays off work. I have been working 5×16 since about middle of January. I could work like this year round if I want to. I have been working about 60 hour weeks from September to Jan and 48 hour weeks before that (liked that, 3 days work, 4 off). The taxes in part don't make it worth it: $15.50 pay, $23.25 overtime 5 days Day 1: $124+$186=$310 Day 2: $124+$186=$310 Day 3: $124+$186=$310 Day 4: $376 (16 hours of overtime still not much more) Day 5: $376 Weekly: $1,674 Federal Tax: 22% (no state tax here in Alaska) $368 So make about $1.3k a week. Functionally my checks after dental insurance (no health offered at my job) is $4,200 a month working this much. So $50k a year net Working 4 days taxed: $286 So lose basically a whole day of work to either…

What is your strategy for when you find yourself in need of a job?

Personally I just save as much as possible and limit my expenses, cancel subscriptions, up my mental health practices, so on. I live rather cheaply. This is largely because I want to be able to leave any job comfortably.

Tired, emotions exhausted, and burned out

Last year I got a job at a junior level position. I was not trained properly. After a few months, my seniors started undermining and gaslighting me. After about 5 months, I was told that due to corporate restructuring I was no longer a junior but a mid level employee. They insisted it was not a promotion. On the same salary, my work load doubled. Every single day has been torture. The work has increased my anxiety attacks. I start crying in the middle of the day. Yesterday was the worst day here. I am on the brink of a full nervous breakdown.
