Month: March 2022
I think it's ridiculous how we have to haggle for a good salary upon getting a job offer. After all the BS we have to go through (degrees, internships, job apps, interviews, etc.), companies want to offer their new workers peanuts, and we have to fight by negotiating so they don't exploit us. Even negotiating is no guarantee that they won't exploit us because there's always a possibility they'll take back the job offer. This is especially true for women, as studies show that people respond more negatively to women negotiating than men. They even try to gaslight us into feeling guilty for asking for a salary we deserve by saying we're greedy and superficial. What's worse is that some people don't even know that negotiating is an option, and they just accept the peanuts they're offered. The whole system is exploitative and manipulative, and I'm sick of it.
I just got laid off!!
My manager said I should be expecting a call around March 14th for this (I do seasonal work so it's expected). They tried to call me in on Sunday and I told em to fuck off. Coincidentally I get a call this morning saying that they no longer need me. My boss was super nice about it, he told me “if another opportunity comes up, take it. You can't rely on this place for employment” I found it funny that they think I'd be waiting for them to call me back in the summer, lmao
Have you ever heard of anything like this, or work somewhere that you're fined cash for being late?! WITAF?!?!?! my employer fined me $90 for being late I am not the OP. (Original) My company has a ridiculous late fine policy: you will be fined $2 for every minute, starting from 9:01 a.m. So if you come in at 9:05 a.m., that’s $10 you gotta pay up in cash. (This is not somewhere where down-to-the-minute coverage would be essential. It’s just typical deskbound, back-end work. I can see why the receptionist who gets the calls will need to be there smack on the dot, but the rest of us — not really.) I’ve been here for over a year, and have been fined maybe three times. They were for 9:01 a.m., 9:02 a.m. and 9:08 a.m. I was intensely annoyed and embarrassed, but okay, I can still absorb the $2-$16…
Long time lurker first time poster. I'm applying for a cybersecurity role selling IAM solutions. I've had my screening interview and the recuritet just told me that the boss is asking for departments, contact names and roles of my past clients at the Federal Government of Canada. I have never been asked this before and I have no inclination to divulge, so that when I don't get hired he still profits from my hard work. Has anyone been asked this? I will be telling her no.
I'm currently on parental leave from my job and 2 weeks ago I sent in a resignation letter and I've yet to receive a response. I got an email from the company provided benefits provider that my coverage has ended so I know they received it. I suppose it's the icing on the cake from this company.
Legit not looking for sympathy for the cancer by the way, so please no ‘get well soon’. In every job I’ve had I’ve been bullied, humiliated and reduced to tears by management at least once. Fuck these managers and companies who think low paid staff are machines, treat us like garbage then are surprised when their staff leave and have mental breakdowns. So yeah, dying of cancer is preferable to another 40 years in the job market and it should not be that way. Thoughts to everyone stuck in a job they loathe, you deserve sympathy far more than people who are dying.
This isn't my usual account, it's a dummy one I rarely use. I'm an RN at a long term care facility. I've worked here for 3 months, but I've been a nurse waaay longer. When I got hired in, I was told the facility had a “unique culture”. I still haven't figured what that means, except maybe bullying, short staffing and some people not caring. Anyhoo, I work second shift. I went in yesterday, got my assignment and got to work. We were short five CNAs and I ran my butt off helping my residents. I finally was able to get away to eat just before 8, after passing most of my meds. My blood sugar drops easy, so I make sure to eat or I get cranky and make mistakes. I was finishing stuffing my pie hole when my manager yelled down the stairs that I needed to come…
