I Turned in my 2-Weeks Notice Last Friday

I finally had enough of the toxic working environment I have been in for three years. I turned in my 2-weeks notice last Friday and can't wait to have this place behind me. The only reason I didn't quit without notice was because I didn't want to leave any of the (few) decent co-workers I've had here in a bad place due to my departure. I have a wife and daughter, so do they. While my company might not give a shit about those factors, I do. After all of: the bullshit, all of the crappy assignments that were given zero support from management and were doomed to fail from the start, the malicious punishments, the improper disciplinary channels, the random calls at 0300 in the morning, the additionally assignments without additional pay, the month long “Employee Concerns Program” suspension because I was acting “aberrantly” (I had just had my…

Promoted to General Manager. Quit.

I worked for a fast food chain that was franchised. Got hired as shift lead and promoted to assistant general manager within 3 months. I didn’t receive as much training as I’d hoped for because my GM became an area manager. Busted my ass to prove myself and before I knew it I was doing way more than I expected. I worked multiple stores to assist area manager, some stores being 45+ min away from home. Sometimes open to close shifts 12+ hours a day. No set schedule, called in on days off, and on call. All while I’m only making assistant GM hourly with no benefits. ($17 hr Los Angeles, averaged less than $2k a month after tax) paying my own health coverage $370 a month. 4th month I get told I’m being promoted to store general manager and I would be taking over a different store. I checked…

Capitalism is not the problem

I always see posts here complaining about their living situation. The money they are paid, the cost of everything, hell I'm even in the same situation. it's terrible that people are living in these conditions in first world countries. They always round off their complaints with how capitalism is a trap. Capitalism is not the problem. Capitalism to explain simply just means you get paid an agreed upon rate for work that you do and it's run privately rather than by the state. How that rate is defined is supply demand and other factors etc. The problem isn't the structure of capitalism, the problem is greedy people exploiting and cheating other people out of fair pay. This part is the source of the problem. I would much rather continue to live in a capitalist society than the alternatives. It has been proven, throughout history that alternatives (like a communist society)…

UK Based Unions: Who’s the best?

I want to unionize my workplace. I have very little idea how but I would have thought getting an already working union org on board would get the job done. Who actually gives a shit as a union? I am afraid we all sign up for something that ends up being bribed by the employer.

Calling between holidays

One of the worst thing I hate about being in a job is that for some some shitty reasons someone will tend to call always and act like we had done some mistakes by taking leaves…anybody else relates..

Anyone hate the movie “The Pursuit of Happyness” (2006)

I saw this film again recently and I realize how much it annoys me in fact, what is the purpose of this film? What is the message sent to the spectators if not to be servile and social slaves who do whatever they are told? Under any conditions and all that to get a job.

Question: Am I About To Do Something Stupid?

Background/Context: I live in England, UK. 25F. Lemme start off by saying how much I love this community and everything it stands for. Onto the main post. I currently work in the marketing department of a billion dollar US company, in their UK office. I've been here since May 2021 and for the first few months we were completely remote. I was hoping we would stay remote like some other companies I have seen. However, as of last autumn, we're all being dragged back into the office as per our contract. I am contracted to be in the office 2 days per week. However, my commute is 3 hours each way – so on two days a week, I'm currently travelling for 6 hours a day. It's killing me. I just got an ADHD diagnosis, and was told by the psychiatrist that I almost certainly have autism too (awaiting referral),…
