These people deserve a living wage and humane working conditions. How could they work so hard on people's most personal challenges, only to not be able to afford a place to live? That is incredibly cruel and sick. They are often hired to work the jobs of two people, for half the pay they need to live without undue burden.
Month: March 2022
Hello, I work part time at a gas station. It's my 1st job I've ever had and I've been working there for 3 months and I'm totally not enjoying it but I need the money so I can move out of my mom house. I spend 4 or 5 hours on my feet stocking drinks in the super cold cooler, sweeping the parking lot, taking out the trash, filling up the ice dispenser thing, cleaning the restroom, and change the cleaning windshield wiper water etc. When I'm finished doing these things somtimes I have like 30 minutes until it's time for me to clock out so I just sit on this little table in the beverage room and get on my phone and drink some water I packed. Here's 2 examples of what they do to me whenever I try to take a break Last Saturday I just finished stocking…
The audacity of some people. The only reason I answered was so I can put it on speakerphone so my sister and her bf could hear me say no 🤣
Here goes nothing
Just submitted for a raise. Been in my position for 15 months as a regional in healthcare. Was a site manager for 3 months before being promoted to this role. No change in pay since the promotion despite my rate being acknowledged as too low 7 months ago and being promised they would “make it right”, whatever that means. I usually work to get my team members what I can, including going to recruiting for raises and usually giving the top of the “range” that we are handcuffed by. Staff clinician I interviewed Friday asked for the moon and recruiting approved it as an “exception”. Her rate as a staff level employee would be higher than mine despite the 8 million other tasks I have on my plate, on top of patient care. We have the exact same credentials and are the same type of healthcare professional. Their position would…
Summer student jobs are a complete scam
Many of us in college/university often start looking for summer jobs whether it be for full-time hours, a co-op or even experience in our field. However, I can't help but notice that a lot of these jobs which are exclusively hiring students (meaning you need to be enrolled to apply) pay incredibly low wages for difficult work. For example, I had to complete a summer co-op last year doing some kind of manual labor and decided to work for my municipal greenhouse and horticulture department. Full time hours at minimum wage (about 14$/hr here), you were tasked with planting flower beds, weeding and watering for 8 hours straight no matter the weather. Many of those days were spent on my hands and knees, slowly crawling along this 200m long flowerbed picking weeds. I don't know why I was always tasked with that exact bed but they would make me do…
She got fired, but whatever, they say she has to pay it back, does she?, how does it work with tax and NI? I say screw them if they can’t even run a payroll right, that’s their fault?
