Been working here for two weeks and I feel like there’s a couple of red flags I can’t ignore anymore. Apparently my hiring managers last week is this week and another employee that’s in charge of a different sector of my department is leaving this week and was only working for the company for two weeks. The person who worked my position before me was only there for a short time as well… So now the owner asked if I not only can be charge of my department but another part of the department as well thats 2 different job positions together. So now I’m basically working 3 peoples jobs. They told me they were gonna find new hires to replace everyone leaving but they haven’t found anyone. So far it’s been a hot mess with last minute calls scheduled in and my slack being blown up with messages from…
Month: March 2022
I don’t think it really matters, but for context, I’m a UX Designer (specifically UX Architect).
So, I have what is, arguably, a good employer. When they announced that yearly raises would be less than inflation, a large swath of resignations ('a high attrition rate' as the corporate speak liked to call it) took place that prompted upper management to take action. A few months later, upper management announced that they will be able to supplement an additional % to raises, which brought the yearly raise to match the 7% inflation and in some cases above (a proper raise). Keep up the pressure on corporate America, they are kicking and screaming like the 5 year olds they are, but we are forcing their hand.
The new indeed ads are bullshit
Basically they had a “share your salary or share” with a guy who either had to take cold ice bath or share his salary. No! You as women must bring men into the conversation to fight for higher salaries for women. It’s not men that are the problem here. It’s employers. No one in their right mind who is in the workforce would share their salary. You must fight the men at top. Fuck indeed for trying to make the working class work against each other.
Most of the time I tip because the alternative is fucking over the people that made and served my food, but sometimes I want specifically the person who made/served my food to get the tip. How do I make sure that the cash gets to them?
Is your job bullshit?
I mean this in the sense of David Graeber's book “Bullshit Jobs.” Does your job consist of pointless meetings, emails, rebuilding programs in software X in software Y? Would the world, and perhaps even the company in some cases, roll happily on without your job? I ask because _my_ job is definitely bullshit, and it really feels like 20+% of jobs in the economy are fake or even actively destructive. But it also sounds like a lot of this sub do practical jobs, preparing food, driving delivery. It seems like the BS jobs could be abolished to raise wages on real jobs…
