Last November I had 9 days off work as I contracted Covid so had to isolate. I wasn't aware at the time but instead of putting it down as off for sickness, she used our system to place me on leave for the 9 days. She didn't ask me if this was what I wanted to do nor inform me that this was what the company does. I only found this out as I'm trying to use leave for a holiday I've booked and was informed when I made the request that I have 0 days left. After some email correspondence my manager asked me 'didn't you have leave in November' I reminded her that this was isolation ( a legal requirement at the time in line with government guidance). I followed this with another question asking if this is company policy to use leave for sick days – using…
Month: March 2022
People have no sympathy for pets.
A bit random but, I work at a company that has an extremely live to work mentality (I do my best to set down boundaries — won’t see your email past 5:30, text me if it’s urgent and even then there’s no guarantee I can do it, etc.) and recently my cat has had a severe seizure type episode where she attacked her own tail and made it bleed. She’s okay now but as a result I need to make sure she wears an e collar for a week, keep an eye on her and give her medication evenly spaced apart for the anxiety and pain. I asked my boss if it was OK for me to work from home for this week while I do this (my job can easily be done from home because I am HR and mostly support my boss and do paperwork for new hires…
I just got a -4% “raise”, any advice?
I’m moving to a new team at work, which comes with a 10% raise. The catch however, is that this new team is in another office which is further away and requires me to get a train ticket, parking at the station, and a bus pass. If I’m abiding by my office’s 3-days-in-per-week guidelines, I will be spending more than I am gaining from this raise. I currently don’t make enough to move out of my parents’ house, and this is only going to slow things down in that regard. I want to talk to my boss/ HR about this, does anyone have any advice as to what I should do? I’m working in the UK by the way, if that makes any difference.
I am quitting my job in a few hours
I am taking a step towards being a better mother, wife, and human being by quitting a job that drains me. I am taking a 20k pay cut but I am reclaiming my life. I'm nervous what my boss will say because I don't have a replacement or anyone that can take over my work and I am newer to the company. Regardless of my bosses reaction or retaliation, I just can't do this anymore. I want my life back.
In Denmark you’re by law entitled to 5 weeks of fully paid vacation when working full time. For the most part this is pretty straight forward. However, if part of your pay is commission based, this is a little more tricky. For simplicity I have a base pay of 20.000 DKK and commission of 20.000 DKK on an average month, equaling 40.000 DKK. However, during vacation time, we were only being paid our base pay, and no compensation for the lost commission due to being away on vacation. For those of you thinking “this is not a big deal” – if you’re living paycheck to paycheck, you literally cannot afford to take vacation, due to missing out on the commission. Not a single soul would want to work here, if it wasn’t for the commission. Last year a ruling in one of Denmarks courts set the precedent that commission based…
Guess i’m not applying
My children's public schools have several rules that just feel like the goal is to make them obedient workers. One kid is in 3rd grade in a gifted program where if you get “three strikes” for tardies and then you are sent out of the gifted program permanently on your third strike. The only acceptable excuses are personal illness in the student or doctor appointments for the student. She's been late twice now, once was literally 30 seconds, and both times were my fault associated with me being sick. The school doesn't care – unexcused. So now I have to wake up my 8 year old now an extra half hour early, at 5:15am, to make sure there's no chance she's late again. My other child is in kindergarten at a different school and they straight up send kids home if they are out of uniform (e.g., have the wrong…
