Who else here worked double shifts without a single break?

I’m referring to the service industry. Yes, I agreed to working double as I needed cash. That does not make my immune to needing a god damn break!

“hiring”

so an architect friend saw this hiring ad and called. he was told to come by a specific place with his own laptop at a specific time and date for a two hour test. he went to the place, it was a big industrial like space with desks and chairs where about 150 participants (with their laptops) were waiting for the test. when the time came, they gave them various architectural drawings printed on paper and told them to recreate them on their computer for two hours. and the test started. after a while someone entered the space accompanied by half a dozen people, all of them well dressed, and as they walked towards a glass separated meeting room at the end of that industrial space some participants heard the leading man saying: “we have many projects and here are our employees, as you can see they are all very…

Employee happiness surveys.

We recently had one and the department score went down but the director tried to gaslight by saying it was good news. Most people just fill out the neutral boxes or not at all. People dont believe they are anonymous and that they are manipulated anyway.

Am I wrong to think that taxing the rich won’t change anything?

If the Government and Corporations are the same entity, then how would taxing the absurdly rich help the working class? Wouldn't that money someone loop itself way back into the pockets of lobbyists and associates against the working people? I feel that it's the same issue with “winning” a union vote. The company can just jump through their manifested loopholes that will inevitably delay what is due from them because there is no penalization for not taking accountability. It doesn't seem like they are put under a time-crunch to carry their duties since there are none in place with the current laws that benefit conglomerates over the global population.

My Job Search Anecdote or How I learned to Wait & not worry about it

Some dozen years ago, through a technical recruiter, I had received an appointment for an HR manager to interview me for my suitability for his company. There were specific technical skills required for the position, on which I had some experience. The first red flag was that the manager of the department had no idea that the HR had scheduled an interview, & so was un-prepared for it. The second red flag was that the actual supervisor I would be working for was not available, (for the same reason as his boss). The third red flag was that no one could point to a desk or cubicle where I would be working, & that the tools I would need to do the job being discussed did not yet exist. In spite of this the HR manager still made an offer, (much to my surprise), on the spot, (another red flag),…

The chain of resentment: why managers are so bitter.

I think the biggest issue in North American work places is that so few people who reach management positions want to better the work place. They all remember being treated like garbage at their earlier jobs and them giving a living wage and vacation to their employees would make them feel extremely resentful. Like a girl I work for, she never wanted me to take vacation as she wasn’t able to for months after she started because it was so busy. Even though whenever I asked, it wasn’t busy, she just wanted me to “suffer” like she did. Whenever I even spoke about vacation she instantly turned noticeably bitter. At this point she had been able to take multiple vacations. We need to stop being petty and resentful. It’s hard and I can’t even promise I would be perfect if I became a manager. This situation is just never going…

anxious about telling work I’m leaving

I'm aware this sounds kinda over the top, but it really does stress me out like crazy. I need to tell my manager I'm leaving tomorrow and I absolutely hate having that conversation. Every job I have it's an extremely difficult thing to do – I'm scared of their reaction and letting them down even though I want to go, every time. I know I need to leave as I cry several times a week from the stress but, I'm terrified of not having anything else in place. I have savings and plan to travel in a few months anyway, so there's no need for me to be as stressed as I am, and I'm planning to just find a part time job til I go but i still stress about the massive pay cut I'll inevitable take, and the fear of going without income for a little while. I…

Thankyou antiwork

I just wanted to say Thankyou all for giving me the courage to push back at work. My brother got an opportunity to play Aussie rules football at the national level yesterday (he smashed it after waiting 10 plus years for a shot) and it was an important day for him and for me to be there for him. Work was worried and made it hard for me but I wouldn’t have been confident to push back before joining this community. Remember life is more important than work and keep fighting for your rights (and to keep fighting for an increase in pay for most of you!)
