I am a mental health therapist in a MAT Suboxone clinic so the irony of this is not lost on me, but over the past week or two I’ve hit a wall mentally with my work. It’s incredibly grueling/demoralizing work in a very depressed rural area. I’m completely burned out and have no PTO remaining until August (we only get 10 days PTO per year flat – no sick days or anything else and the bare minimum of holidays). I’m only 29 but last month got shingles, likely due to stress, and worked through that except for one day where the pain was too great. I also just had to cancel a vacation planned for May with my brother (first one we would’ve had in probably 10 years) because no PTO left. I think having to give up on that trip pushed me over the edge mentally. I haven’t had…

A Slap in the Face
My company, which made over a billion dollars last year, has just let us know what our Merit Raises will be. I got a 1% raise… a whopping 20 cents. That's about 7 dollars extra a week. Its not just me, others got anywhere from 1-3%. We were told “Merit Raises wouldn't be much because we just got a 2 dollar pay increase.” I work in a factory and don't even break 20 dollars an hour. That increase put the starting pay at 18 dollars an hour. That's beside the point, why does my “Merit” get affected by the earlier increase? It didn't change the quality of work I put out, so what's the deal? Just wanted to vent… I'd rather they just not have given me a raise at all. Thanks for the extra 1.5 gallons of gas a week I guess.
The workers union I am a member off has officially put a pay rise claim into my work. Currently three years without a pay rise, rising inflation and living costs means something needs to be done.
This customer that walked in said this bullshit just now Sir where do you get the audacity??? I’m a manager at a pizza joint making $15/hr right now and it’s very common for them to make me run the entire store by myself. It’s possible, but not practical. I answer phones, place orders, slap out dough, construct pizzas, watch the ovens, ensure there’s enough boxes folded, enough dipping sauces up front, etc. Its not that hard a job in my opinion but it is strenuous when you’re by yourself. And obviously that means wait times will be higher. I am one person. You can wait without disrespecting my job, let alone while I am servicing you.
Have you guys been naughty?
I'm a middle manager who will be putting in his two weeks tomorrow after being in this meeting. In our morning meeting my higher up decided he's going to pull an april fools joke saying he's going to send an email at 11 giving everyone the day off tomorrow as a reward for their hard work. Then at 4:30 he's going to send some dumb meme saying april fools. I've been wanting out of this place for a while, but this clown pulling a move like this is the straw that broke the camel's back. I'm not sure why he thought it was funny, but he's the “boss”.
Work hard to succeed
A friend shared this with me and I thought I'd leave it here for a chuckle 🙂 https://preview.redd.it/m5qzijl3fqq81.jpg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6f6870e3a34b1b52adc00d6ae55f22990c4c117e
Member of a national construction union since 2005. My career in the construction building trade union started off working in the field for unionized construction employers. My jobs included demolition, commercial interior systems, and refractory work. In 2009 I started to work for the actual union itself. Over the years I’ve been engaged in various types of work/roles to secure union projects and grow the organization’s membership. These activities include but are not limited to industry research, member recruitment, political advocacy, job actions and contractor relations. Ask me about anything related to unions, membership, the construction trades, or organized labor in general.
