A recruiter from my old place of employment is reaching out to me through text and email repeatedly. I left on great terms there, so I know they'd take me back. However, I want to negotiate my salary. I don't really care if they say no, as I plan on requesting much more than their base pay and I already have a job I like. I just want to give myself the best chance at them saying yes. I would only accept the position at an hourly pay of $25/ up. How does this sound: Hi [recruiter]! I'm sorry, I've been having exams so I've not been checking my phone consistently. I loved working at [Facility], and am definitely interested in returning part-time with .2 FTE working every other Saturday and Sunday. I found the work really rewarding and I think highly of [Facility] as a facility. I will be…
I've been thinking that being an employee for a company where there's no profit sharing or for the government, makes for opposing interests. As a worker you're supposed to offer as little productivity for as much money as possible, and the corporation has the opposite interest. And yet I'm often so conditioned that i end up working really hard for jobs that are ultimately not really lead to anything…
Delusional boss
My boss is somewhat delusional. He thinks she knows it all and has to know more than his employees. The truth of the matter is that he doesn't know all. Of course, he knows some, but not all. But he acts like he is the king and likes to pound his chest during a meeting. God, it sickens me. He has to put himself in front of his employees. Well last few months, I voiced my concerns to HR and his manager. Now, I am getting retaliated by voting my concerns to others. Basically, he took away my main responsibility and gave it to someone else. Currently, I am doing the bare minimum at work. At least, I can utilize my spare time to study and get prepared for a new job/employer. I've worked for good and great bosses in the past. This is by far the worst. No people…
So my mom has a cleaning lady come over once a month ($70 for the day and she comes with another lady – pretty good deal). She called my ma the other day and she was pretty upset because she said she was at another house and she accidentally knocked over her Gatorade bottle and it spilled on the bed. She washed the sheets and comforter but the mattress had a red Gatorade stain. When the woman of the house came home, she flipped out starting to curse out the cleaning lady, belittle her, ridicule her, then the husband came home and he joined in on the fun. The cleaning lady offered to hire a professional mattress cleaning company to come steam, disinfect, etc. the mattress – they said no, she needs to pay $3,000 for a brand new mattress and if she can’t afford it, too bad she can…
Pretty much title, because HOLY SHIT did this really hit yesterday. Long story short, I very much dislike school and for my mental health, I decided to decrease my class load. Because of this, I was required to take up a different but lower hour class. This class is essentially a class about “exploring the joyous work world”. And I knew, from the moment that I started this class (and from a while before), that college is one of the GREATEST hinderances to creating free-minded, loving people. Although I won't name drop (because I don't feel as it is truly needed), this college is supposed to be one of the TOP colleges that provides an education for the working world. EVERY SINGLE THING that these schools teach is based around (at the very heart) a highly competitive, exploitative mindset. Students at my college work ALL the time, and then…
So last night it was very windy in my city; my power at home was flickering all night. I come in to work this morning, and our whole block has zero power. Not even our emergency generator or handicap accessible elevator work. I can't even clock in on the time clock. No one from work bothered to communicate this to any of us. I cannot do my job without my computer. I've literally been sitting at my desk for 45 minutes with nothing to do. Why were we not told to stay at home? Now my coworkers are talking about moving furniture in our office around to occupy our time…lol. Okay.
Layed off 2 weeks after starting
Need some advice on whether I should respond and what the response should be. Background: I was contacted by a company who had a client that needed my IT expertise. We agreed on a corp2corp agreement. I went through several interviews, and was verbally told I have the job. it took them several months to on-board me. Very involved background check, drug test, etc… Finally I started. First week I didn't have a laptop, so I just kind of did nothing while waiting for the laptop to arrive. Then 2 weeks of on-boarding, doing corporate training, and about 3-4 meetings with a team regarding a project. I wasn't given any tasks or told anything specific. As a matter of fact, I haven't even spoken to my manager yet. This morning I logon and see an email from my manager's manager, saying: “Please accept my sincere apologies but we will need…
I work in IT consulting and I got around 12years of experience managing complicated projects. When looking for new gigs there are a few things that repel me instantly: personality/logic/other cognitive tests – those tests are often checking your basic cognitive skills or basic logic – they are easy to ace once you have done a few in past, but I draw a line here and usually just tell them that I want to be out of the process. Cognitive tests or character tests usually mean that they want a certain kind of people and diversity will be almost non-existent. Similarly, logic tests or math tests (for IT delivery positions…) will check the skills that you would never use at work. Again they are easy enough, but utterly useless in the grand scheme of things, and a waste of time in the process. Basic language skills – They aren't necessarily…
