I long ago stopped using Amazon if I could find a product any other place due to their treatment of workers and the effects on small businesses. However with the recent anti union ridiculousness Amazon continues to engage in to such extreme extent, I’m realizing that my use of kindle and audible is problematic. It may not effect warehouse and delivery workers but it’s supporting the company that is mandating anti union meetings and repeatedly suppressing union votes. Anyone have thoughts on good alternatives you’ve found? (Yes, mainly my local library but they don’t have everything I’m looking for.) What else are you doing to support better options than Amazon? https://www.cnn.com/2022/04/08/tech/amazon-union-elections-objections/index.html

New offer inc – need advice
I am a recruiter, not super well paid, but decent. Got the support of my two bosses. No micromanaging, full flexible working hours, 100% WFH. So I am genuinely happy. During this week I was approached and saw my self in a 2nd round interview with another company who know me well. I lied and said I get paid 5k more than I do per month, they will need to give me a raise for me to move. Thing is I got the feeling they will give me an offer, and I really don’t know what to do. 1/ stay where I am, I am kinda my own boss and successful 2/ move and get a higher pay, same conditions for WFH, probably a bit more KPI controlled Suggestions and comments appreciated
Taking workplace “fun” to new levels
Wanted to ask this sub if anybody had been denied the opportunity to apply for a job they were otherwise 100% qualified to do because they failed a standardized personality test. Also curious how people feel about the efficacy of personality tests for employment.
Just a rant, tested positive for COVID today and the UK has changed the rules to say self isolation is not mandatory, only recommended. No sick pay from work and my boss had some attitude when I told him. A lot of my customers are old and vulnerable (at one point today we had 3 in over 90 years old) and spend a considerable amount of time a day in my shop. Boss basically said he didn't care, I wouldn't get sick pay and put the decision on me to either risk infecting them and have enough to live on next month or go without for their sake. I'm so sick of this shitty company, going to use my time at home to ramp up the job search because this is a joke.
I think Capitalism is like puberty
I know a lot of people talk about how capitalism is evil OR defend capitalism. I find that it’s a necessary stage to go through to find a more stable functional whatever -ism. Capitalism allowed exponential growth but it’s not sustainable nor healthy to continue this way. I believe human society is meant to go through these different stages and we are at the end of entertaining capitalism. Thank you for coming to my tedtalk
Sick leave vs PTO in NY
I work full time at an independent day care center in New York. My employer does not offer sick days, instead we are required to use our paid time off… but I googled the law for NY paid sick leave & it says for a company with 5-99 employees, employers must provide up to 40 hours of paid sick leave per calendar year. So is it illegal that they’re making us use PTO? Who can I report this to?
