Political Discussions at Work
How do you guys deal with customers/patients/coworkers who feel the need to spit their political ideologies at me while I'm at work? I don't get paid enough to get awkwardly trapped in a convo I feel uncomfortable talking about.
Okay, I will preface this by saying I can't raise pay, improve benefits, etc. Thats just not my realm of power. But… I am working on ways to make the quality of warehouse workers days better. (I am an hr business partner). And my main focus is employee engagement ( or at least, thats what I'm choosing to focus on… I don't deal with benefits/pay as I said before and I cannot give pto) I am posting on antiwork because working sucks, yes. I also hate my boss, Im not making 6 figures (actually underpaid for my title but thats another rant). But if I have to do this job to survive, I'd at least want to spend my time actually pushing for things that make these employees lives less miserable. And antiwork seems like the best place to get brutally honest answers. So, let me know what you would…
Horrible Interview
So I interviewed for a correctional officer position within my local county sheriff’s department and it was absolutely awful. For reference I’m currently employed in retail making $15+ hr and recently finished my B.A. in criminal justice. They offered me .30 cents less per hour and upwards of 50+ hours per week. I would be paid less per hour and required to work more hours. That wasn’t the kicker for me though. The interviewers mentioned that if I ever made a mistake with an inmate they would “read the incident report and change the wording if it looks bad on you or the department”. I’ve never been more eager to get out of a building before.
My DSP wants to convince me to stay.
So I’m close to the exit period. This job isn’t worth sticking around for 2 years. I found another job and I’m taking my chances since I can careless now. There’s no career and my supervisor can’t do much anyway. I couldn’t stand his one way speech then mean something else when doing these deliveries. It was at this point where I say screw it. $1 pay raise in 2021. Was part time for a year and then made full time after a year. Some sly shit at that. I’m not staying.
My boss is making me come in to the office full-time starting Monday instead of working remotely full-time (which I’ve been doing successfully for the past year). None of my teammates are being required to come in. How can I make their life as insufferable as mine is about to become? What can I do to annoy them while still being considered a ‘reasonable employee’. I’ve thought of responding to all comments with ‘yes, sir’ and ‘no, sir’ or constantly asking them to speak up due to ‘hearing issues’. I work a desk job in a quiet office environment.
4 weeks notice canada
Does anyone know the laws of Canada? If I had signed a contract saying I will give 4 weeks notice when I leave, will I get in trouble legally if I dont? I can probably give max 2 weeks but I think 4 weeks is too much
This article on Indeed has given me the strength to finally leave my job (without 2 weeks notice). It says right here that health can be a valid reason to leave without notice, as can a hostile work environment and fear of being terminated! https://www.indeed.com/career-advice/career-development/quit-without-notice I am hoping someone would be willing to read my resignation letter for me and let me know if it is professional enough. I have not done anything like this before. I am in an extremely toxic corporate workplace where I make minimum wage, but I am not an unkind person and I don't want my manager to forever have hatred for me in her heart, even if I am never going to see her again. Please someone lmk if you have a few minutes and I will send you my screenshots of the letter (2 screenshots, short letter)
SIT ON A PINECONE T-MOBILE
A few days before my grandfather's funeral my Dad got a call from his boss at t-mobile saying his whole sector is going to layed off because they don't need him anymore. He's worked there for 35 years and they're just throwing him away. My dad is responsible for 5g in the whole southern US region. Now since he doesn't have a degree, companies are pushing him off even though he has 35 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE. That sector was full of people who had families and those who should have been retired already but you took away their pension. You act on social media like you're a “good workers rights” company and that you give your employees benefits but often times you take those away and we have to pay out of pocket for so many things. We don't even get any discount from you guys. My father is a…
Really that whole movie comes off differently.
