So the store I worked at closed at 10pm. A customer came in one night and complained that we closed before they could finish their shopping. My employer’s response was to add 15mins to the end of EVERYONE’s (who was an adult) shifts, except if you worked until 8pm. Then you would have an extra half hour added, so you left at 8:30. I thought this was incredibly stupid and it messed up our break and lunch schedule terribly, and the 15mins was mandatory. They said they could see it with our clock ins and outs and that this extra time was going to be reflected in our payroll. The break and lunch system was this: for adults, one 15min break after 4hrs worked. If more than 6hrs have been worked, they get a 30min lunch. Forced arbitration agreements tie employees' hands when it comes to punishing their employers for illegal actions (wage theft, sexual harassment, racial discrimination, anti-union activities, and much more). I'll keep it short and sweet. This is sort of a personal success story as well. Not sure if this is allowed. I've done a lot over the years related to my career. I've owned a business, taught (small events related to my career, and also general teaching kids), grew & supplied materials. I completely took a U turn in my life and separated from my business.
