Forced to come into work with Covid.
Let me set the scene, we had an email a few weeks ago, saying that if we now test positive for covid, you have to come into work as normal. There will be NO working from home. If you do decide to not come in because you are too unwell. You will only get SSP. (£90 a week) or you can use your limited yearly holiday entitlement. I came into work on Tuesday after informing my boss that i had Covid on Monday night.. I brought in my own laptop and was put in an isolated room for the week to keep the other office staff “safe”. I felt like death but could not afford to have a week on SSP only. The work i was given was something i could do at home but the boss said “you are here to set a precedence for everyone else as we…
So the store I worked at closed at 10pm. A customer came in one night and complained that we closed before they could finish their shopping. My employer’s response was to add 15mins to the end of EVERYONE’s (who was an adult) shifts, except if you worked until 8pm. Then you would have an extra half hour added, so you left at 8:30. I thought this was incredibly stupid and it messed up our break and lunch schedule terribly, and the 15mins was mandatory. They said they could see it with our clock ins and outs and that this extra time was going to be reflected in our payroll. The break and lunch system was this: for adults, one 15min break after 4hrs worked. If more than 6hrs have been worked, they get a 30min lunch. If 8hrs are worked, you get two 15min breaks and 30min lunch, but the…
Post Firing Update
So last Tuesday I got fired. Original post can be seen here here: https://www.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/tutkj2/so_i_got_fired_yesterday/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share So after much deliberation I have decided not to go back to work. Perhaps I was in a better situation than most, because I had some money left and my savings. I also have access to the land I am about to mention. So I found a used RV on Craigslist for 5,000. I had moved out to the country (30 minutes to closest grocery store kind of country) for this job, which fired me. I have been worried sick about what to do as far as housing and future employment. I suppose I am also lucky as I am single and don't have any children. So I decided to pick up this RV Monday. I plan on doing odd jobs as needed (mostly farm labor, manual labor for family friends.) I'm going to start a…
Forced arbitration agreements tie employees' hands when it comes to punishing their employers for illegal actions (wage theft, sexual harassment, racial discrimination, anti-union activities, and much more). The FAIR act would outlaw the practice of forcing employees to sign these agreements and render any existing agreements void (with the exception of currently active disputes under an arbitration agreement). As a side bonus, this would also illegalize the practice of forcing consumers to agree to arbitration clauses before purchasing goods or services. Studies have shown that there is a massive difference in employers' favor when arbitrating vs litigation in open court – the company wins significantly more often in arbitration. This is somewhat intuitive – arbitration is an inherent conflict of interest. The arbitrators' paychecks are signed by the companies that are being represented. If you have the time, you should seek to contact your senator. Show up in person if…
I'll keep it short and sweet. This is sort of a personal success story as well. Not sure if this is allowed. I've done a lot over the years related to my career. I've owned a business, taught (small events related to my career, and also general teaching kids), grew & supplied materials. I completely took a U turn in my life and separated from my business. The other owner was getting senile and causing A LOT of issues. I eventually have to get an independent lawyer to deal with the mess. At the end of it all, I essentially told him to f*ck off. I've bent over backwards and essentially have been stolen from. I see stories on here all the time of shit employers trying to garnish wages, tips, even time. I feel for all of y'all. No one wants to work with that crap. I took a…
