I work for a thrift store. Don’t get me wrong, I love my coworkers, I find tons of amazing things, it’s a fun place to work. HOWEVER, they refuse to give me living hours. I’ve worked here for 8 months. When I started, they told me I’d be part time until I finished training. When I finished training they said I’d be part time till I made $300 an hour in production. When I made $300 they told me I’d be part time until I made $400. When I made $400 they told me I’d be part time until I made $450. I’m working my ass off, I’m energetic, I make sure to put in the effort of getting along with everyone, I express that I genuinely enjoy my job often. I do everything right. I’ve tried looking for another job but none of them are enjoyable, none are offering…
Month: April 2022
Study basically says that after a great deal of painstaking research, scientists have concluded that people with millions of dollars are happier than people who do not have millions of dollars.
I recently went back to retail after hurting my back in a demolition job. Since being in this job, i'm expected to all but run to each of my tasks, and go above and beyond all for minimum wage. Since I left retail in 2014 no employer has worked me this hard, period.
Since WWII, Healthcare has been tied to employers and the standard waiting period if 90 days makes it so difficult for employees to move to new jobs. Why wouldn't corporate America fight against legislation that would immediately allow free career movement for the entire population? How many times have you heard “I can't afford to quit”? It would be so much easier to ditch your shit employer if you had continuing insurance coverage that didn't cost you a whole month's salary (Cobra). Imagine how big the great resignation would be if everyone were free from the Healthcare chokehold of corporate America.
So I have a doozy. I work for a celebrity news site and get paid a flat rate per article and a set amount of revenue per article. This month, HR admitted to me in an email (but just me because we're friends) that there was a tech glitch that resulted in my and everyone's revenue was over 50% less than it should be. I asked what was going to be done and she said she'd talk to the boss. Well, she talked to the boss and he doesn't want to compensate anyone for the lost revenue and he told her not to tell anyone about the tech glitch (a little too late for that lol). He also said that I shouldn't be complaining that my paycheck was “a little” short this month because it wasn't that much money (I wrote like double the articles so flat article rate was…
First Time Being Fired
I finally managed to pick up a job driving a forklift I'm September. Prior to that I was laid off at the start of the Pandemic and remained on unemployment while searching for work. I felt like I actually found a pretty decent gig doing something I enjoyed(I have driven industrial vehicles for the past decade alongside a few heavier pieces of equipment). I made good with the team and was finally getting into the groove of my day to day. Today I go in, after having called in for a personal matter yesterday, to be told that I was being moved to another position. I asked my team lead the reasoning and was told it was because of my prior experience but upon talking to the team lead of that area I was told it was punishment for not being there a lot lately (all excused, discussed with my…
Were all done with how shit the owners treat not only us but especially the manager. For less than £1/h over minumum wage and a 0-hour contract with a rota that she makes and owner 1 undermimes, she receives angry customer complaints and owner 2 screaming at her to fix the angry customer complaints. Yay! So now there is a pretty hefty list of people who are planning to leave, including the manager, our only two full-timers (outside of the manager) and three part-timers (including me). This will leave them with one person who can only work 11am-2pm monday-friday and one person who only works on sundays. And they'll have two weeks to hire an entire new team of staff and get them trained up otherwise both of the owners AND the area manager will have to travel to the shop which takes almost an hour one-way. This is gonna…
