I hope this doesn't die in new 🙁 I originally wrote this as a comment of support to someone being downvoted for stating that absent parents are a serious issue, but I feel so strongly about this I wanted to share my story. I had absent parents growing up because they had to work or we'd starve. They were “uneducated” so were forced into factory jobs. My main provider of care until the age of 9 was my alcoholic grandfather; a man so inept he picked the wrong child up from nursery when I was 3 and got all the way home with this other kid before he realised it wasn't me. After working in a toxic work environment (IT industry) for way too long I finally decided to change my career a few months ago and started taking courses online to gain a certification. I set a goal for myself, wrote it in my agenda so I would see it every day and focused on achieving it. Then, once I updated my online profile and resume with that new info, I was contacted immediately for 2 interviews in the next two days. I had both interviews and got my dream job offer the next day! More money, 100 percent paid medical benefits, 100 percent remote, better people! Moral of the story is dont stay too long in a toxic, negative environment especially with mean, condescending people- We deserve better! I found out today that I failed to secure a job, a bottom-rung-of-management job at a different organisation to the one that I'm currently employed with. Two years of management experience, 4.5 years of experience in the reverent field, and 10 years of experience with customer service, which related to the position. I know it's tough out there, and you're never promised a job, but in order to get the 'no', I put in the following: 2 hours to write my statement and complete application 4 hours preparing for my first interview 2 hours travelling to and from first interview 1 hour interview 1.5 hours on tests: reasoning, numeracy, experience & personality 2 hours preparing a presentation to deliver at stage 2 2 hours preparing for the questions 2 hours travelling to and from second interview 1 hour for second interview. I quit a big 4 where I worked for more than 6 years and joined a new company. The culture shock and shift change threw me off and I couldn’t survive. My trainer who was moving to a different team trained me for 2 weeks and she was so rude and wasn’t approachable at all. I did my best without asking her and took team mates help to finish my work. Work was so unorganised that they just continuously dumped work on me without a plan. The x team member wouldn’t give me details of what was done last month and I was asked to figure out when people were rude. No documents were saved for me to refer to.
