Ah yes, wage slavery.
Canada Immigration News: Canada relaxes temporary foreign worker program rules to address labour shortages. https://www.cicnews.com/2022/04/canada-relaxes-temporary-foreign-worker-program-rules-to-address-labour-shortages-0424115.html I know this first hand because I am involved with the Muslims. They are great people. I am only putting this here because if the rest of us had this program. There would be more Canadians getting ahead. Edit1. They will pay for 6 moths of their salary. It's supposed to say in the heading.
I worked at a city center during college. I did security, which was what the city called night janitors so they didn’t have to call them janitors. I also worked in the day time hours when I could, filling requests of the supervisor and also being a janitor. There were some issues which I don’t even remember now but like the day staff and night staff were not fulfilling tasks and set ups properly and I was doing the same work on my day shifts as my night shifts, when whoever was clocked in was supposed to be doing half the shit when I wasn’t there. I didn’t think it was malicious at all, as I remember. More like- these folks don’t know what they’re supposed to be doing and nobody told them. I typed up a “memo” and left it in everybody’s mailboxes. It was like 4-5 sentences- “please…
Working with an antiwork mindset
So I've been lurking a while here. I have some thoughts, and some questions. I love my career. I'm an archaeologist and the days can be long and physically exhausting. But I find my job mostly interesting and rewarding. I push hard and think I have a strong work ethic. My wage is good, but I recently moved countries and am on less than I was before (moved to be closer to family). But that doesn't phase me too much tbh, as it's still well above the minimum wage. With all that said, I have one rule: I never work for free. Ever. Every task I do that is work related, I bill my hours for. Phone call during my paid break – I bill, and then resume the clock for the remaining paid break. Discussion with the manager about archaeology (not strictly project specific) – I bill. Mandatory company…

Car broke down a while ago can’t afford to fix the parts and I don’t make enough money with this job to the point it can pay for another car in this market. My co worker hours are getting cut leaving me to do deliveries on my own, lift heavy equipment on my own. I would love to quit but all the other jobs around me are for Nurses and the gig jobs don’t pay over $17+ I just have no way out
Hello everyone! After months of considering, I think I and my co-workers want to start a union, but I am not sure how that works for very small organizations (an NGO, staff are 5 people, management is 2). Does anyone have any resources that could be of help? Or any advice at all?
My boss just texted me asking if I could come in extra next week, I already have plans for that day so I responded saying I couldn't, to which they replied “Well why not?” This has happened in the past and it puts me in such an awkward situation because I dont just wanna tell them “None of your business” and come off as being rude, but I also dont wanna tell them why Im not coming in because… well its none of their business. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to respond to a message like that without being a dick, but also not actually telling what I'm doing that day?
