I'll try not to draw this out too much cuz if I go into all the details this post will be insanely long. Also, idk if conspiracy theory is allowed here as I have no proof one way or the other. My father-in law recently hit me with a spiel about “nobody wants to work”. And talked about how all these businesses are hiring and understaffed. (Which BTW, I'm pretty sure he was taking a jab at me because I'm self-employed and they HATE it.) I said, “I'm not so sure it has anything to do with desire to work. For starters, working conditions at some of these places are awful. Been there, done that. Secondly, your daughter (my wife) has been applying for new work for almost 2 years and can't find a new job. Everywhere she has applied has been “urgently” hiring and understaffed. And a bunch of…
Month: April 2022
Anyone have that job that still creeps into their head, living rent free, years after quitting.
Quitting 1st corporate job 3 months in
Hey, so I have started a new job in in Finance. I was approached by a recruiter and overall the process went well and fast and got the job without any previous experience. They have training and everything but I just realized accounting and processing is just not for me. I cannot understand most processes that I do, I keep struggling with everything + I started during an extremely chaotic transition that I am a part of. I have other interviews lined up in the finance/management sector so I am not quite worried about my future, I have other skills that do not make me worried about finding a job in the future. What I am worried is the reaction of the managers. They invested a lot of money to hire and train me as a contractor, would it be rude to leave the job? Also, I am one of…
Put in my 2 weeks today
Put in my 2 weeks today at my corporate job to go somewhere else for a shorter commute and more money. I’ve had plenty of issues at my current job and there are many more reasons for my departure, but I’ve always considered myself to have a good relationship with my colleagues and management. Well, that changed quickly! Since putting in my 2 weeks yesterday, I have faced massive hostility from my coworkers and management. They are intensely guilting me and making me feel like I am committing a crime or act of intentional violence against them. I know I will leave a gap in my team but I am training others and even spent the weekend writing up extensive training guides and documents for work turnover to make it easier. I was super excited about the new opportunity and now just feel really shitty, tbh. One of my coworkers…
Applied for a role and got an offer from HR via WhatsApp. Strange, they do not do correspondence via email. HR then proceeds to do a lot of follow up and chasing of my documents via WhatsApp. Claims to be sending the contract with details the following week (via WhatsApp too) but I receive a rejection email this week. What kind of a snarky come back should I do on their claim to “offer” but the decision turned out otherwise?
it's one of those classic big box retailers. probably one of the ones that you're thinking of. i worked in the electronics section, being one of maybe 2 or 3 people total, since turnover rate in the store was crazy, so i was often there every day of the week. i never showed up late, rarely ever called out, picked up shifts, helped my coworker's workload, no problem. the job did a permanent number on my body and i'm chronically disabled now in my early 20s, but i still never complained to them and did my job as needed. but then 2020, of course, i got covid there almost immediately after it was known to reach my state. while laying sick in bed, constantly fighting asthma attacks, i got calls from HR asking me to get doctors notes (though later would tell me it was childish to bring in a…
Time to update my resume
If only to apply to every job I’m minimally qualified for in order to put companies though a hard interview (lmk if you want to be a “reference”) and ask to know if they’re union and/or require a living wage salary or hourly wage 🙂
So I’m confused.
I come in and do my job and I focus on serving the customers as best as I can, but I'm not necessarily having fun with neither the management or other employees, who seem to enjoy standing around and playing on their phones etc. I'm not trying to judge them, nor say that they are not doing their job, but I'm not necessarily fitting into the scheme of things where everyone is just having fun and chatting with each other in down times. As per a lot of posts here, it seems like my work demeanor is not aligned with how people should be doing their job in the same age. Am I off? I don't pull up my phone and text nor look at random things on the internet in the downtime, I live by the code that when I am free, it doesn't necessarily mean that I'm free,…
