Red Flags in an Interview

Just completed an interview with a company that I was really looking forward to. It started off ok then we started talking about salary compensation. He said they offer an equivalent of 3000 USD a month (when the recruiter had initially told me they offer 4000 USD a month). Then he went on to say people would kill for that kind of salary and that it is very good. Second he badmouthed the previous employee who left this role saying he helped him build his career and then he abandoned them after three years, and he still doesn't know anything. Third he asked me how quickly it would take me to be an expert in the role as he needs someone to learn fast. I said maybe 3-6 months. He said it's a bad answer because it shows I'm over confident and he wanted to hear 2 years or 3…

I finally had the nerve to do it

So I have been working at a veterinary clinic for about 9 months now. From the very beginning things have been bad on a professional level as well as a financial one. Long story short I graduated from college with my A.A.S in veterinary technology and passed my licensure boards which is a HUGE deal in the veterinary world because they usually just hire people with little to no experience and work their way up. Originally they seemed very happy to have me there as I was a valuable asset and didn’t need much training. They hire me and coast over pay during the interview process which I thought was weird. I let them know I needed to support myself and my husband because he’s going back to school full time and he won’t be working. (He did the same thing for me when I was in school.) They say…

Reminder that a million extra people have died in the past 2 years, and as messed up as it is to say, that’s a lot of worker’s leverage!

https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/us-death-rate-soared-17-2020-final-cdc-mortality-report-concludes-rcna9527 Stuff like pandemics disproportionately hit those earning the least, too – so with 17% more deaths than usual in 2020 alone, that's a LOT of extra job openings unfulfilled! Not even counting the old people who decided to retire rather than work in a digital workplace, which I can't find good stats on! There's a reason “nobody wants to work” – over a million people died, and possibly a million more can't due to disabilities caused by COVID! The same thing happened with the Spanish Flu – ” One such impact was on workers' wages, as the labor shortage drove up the demand for skilled workers, which then increased wages. In the United States, wages had already increased due to the shortage of workers caused by the war, however the trend increased further in the two or three years after the war, despite the return of so many personnel…

Why hire me if you aren’t going to train me?

I started working for a big firm recently. It’s 100% not what I want to do in life. (still figuring that part out, but I need to pay the bills until then). Like a lot of big firms lately, the training has become automated. A few weeks of “interactive” videos which basically tell you how to do your job, with no real life examples. Being honest, I’m more confused about the job after doing them. They know I’m coming in with little experience in the field but assured me it’s fine as full training will be provided. I’ve been doing some tasks now and I just can’t grasp them, they are alien compared to what I was shown in my training. The “training buddy” showing me how to do specific parts of the job is great at what he does, but keeps assuming my base knowledge is higher than it…

I Just Quit My Job!

I work for HomeGoods which is a TJX company (Marshalls, TJMaxx, HomeSense and Sierra Trading Post). Well I should say workED for them! What an awful company. During the Christmas season last November we were severely understaffed. The workers that we had were worked to the absolute bone (with no overtime however) and asked to do ridiculous things. We would get 5 to 6 full semi trucks per week. The trucks would have anywhere from 1500 to 2000 pieces in them ranging from small boxes all the way up to couches and large pieces of furniture. ONE PERSON worked on the truck. Unloaded the entire thing into a stockroom filled to capacity with 5 to 6 workers opening every box, labelling every item in each box and categorizing the items before putting them on “tanks” to be moved into the sales floor which was also filled beyond capacity. There were…
