Resignation after being poached
Hi, I’m working at a tech company, and recently a few of my co-workers, including my former manager, have left the company due to our difficult director/leadership. Note: I am fairly young in my career, and have been here for 1.5 years. No one senses or thinks I’m leaving despite our teams turnover, I’ve done a good job at being present and performing well. I personally haven’t been too affected by the bad leadership and am on the director’s good side for some reason lol. My former manager who I loved working with, and a few coworkers have joined a different company, they’ve encouraged me to join & let’s just say I’ve been poached and I actually am excited about this new role at a new company. I’ve been offered a raise and retention bonus at my current company, but this new company has competitive benefits, coworkers & a culture…
A few weeks ago I was doing a six week block of Casual Relief Teaching with a High School, who tentatively offered me a contract position of three days a week as a Tutor with the option of two days a week of casual work with them. I spoke with the Principal again during the last week of the block and he said that the contract position would likely now be 2-3 days a week and would depend on administrative movements within the school. He told me to contact him again (via email) in relation to the position in a fortnight’s time. I did so, in the hope for a more formal and fixed offer. The Principal informed me that the position had fallen through and he was no longer able to offer me the contract position. Do I have any legal recourse in this matter? Or because it was…
I do not feel safe.
Just got fired from my part time serving job for “being a negative presence in the workplace” by the owner after I spoke about how I didn’t agree with some of their decisions and a situation involving ownership and a manager that ended up quitting because of the way they were treated. After the manager quit, others began quitting in droves and now the owner believes that I have staged some sort of or am involved in a walkout or mass resignation I have nothing in writing and I feel like they will either take legal action or do something less than legal to me. What are my options if any?
Mandated leave bs.
Long time follower of this Reddit so now I’m going to post/rant for the first time. I’m Australian and we have 20 days of annual leave. Unfortunately, if you’re working at a corporate, about 5-10 days is eaten up due to forced mandatory shutdown over Xmas. I already dislike that out of principle because I don’t celebrate Xmas and it’s so expensive to travel then but that’s another story. So with Covid restrictions over the last 2 years, people have been hoarding leave understandably because we can’t do much. My business unit has now mandated us to take 4 days off between Easter and Anzac Day. This isn’t a company wide directive (that I know of) but I also think that it’s bullshit that I’ve been asked to take 14 days mandatory out of 20 in this last FY22 up to June 30th. I’ve been saving leave for this year…
S**ual harassment
Good evening Reddit community. I have a pretty peculiar case, and something about what I’m about to tell you does not leave me with a good feeling. Long story short, I work in a hotel who offers room service. We recently had our executive chef retire and he was replaced by another chef. This is where it gets tricky. He was fired from his last 2 jobs, for multiple charges of s**ual assault. When the owner of the hotel hired him, no back ground checks were done and he was immediately given the job. After a week, the owner had been demanded to do a back ground check, and they finally looked into it. After further investigation, it was found that this man had over a dozen of different women from his last 2 jobs who had cases against him, all for the same exact reason. Now, when the owner…
