So i work for a mobility/internet/tv company in customer service and sales. We make pretty decent money and we are union which is awesome. The way our pay is structured is we get a base pay plus commission from sales, up to 1000.00 for hitting 100%, and we cap out at 300% so we can get up to an extra 3000 on our paycheck every month. So over the course of a month we will take over a 100 calls as a rep and are expected to try and get a sale on every call. So during the month of February i maxed out on my sales and hit the 300%. Some background: My company does promotions and titles super funky. Tech 1s are entry level and usually are promoted to Tech II after a year with the company. I know of Tech II who have wildly different responsibilities but also some who stay within their hired roles. I was hired as a level 1 tech and 6 months in was moved to a level 2 tech but without an official promotion due to some people quitting and higher demand. I talked with my manager about getting the promotion early but only got a half yes. She basically said she would give me the promotion but was waiting for our calendar year merit increase to be implemented and /then/ she would put it through so that I would get the most money out of it. This is not about me but my girlfriend who has given me permission to make this post. My girlfriend currently works 5 days a week, Monday – Friday, at a day care. Since she recently started going therapy she has stopped working on Thursdays. A week or so ago on a Friday she had an appointment with a physiatrist which she requested off the proper time in advance for. When she requested off her boss questioned her thinking that she went on Thursdays to which my girlfriend responded that this is a different doctor. The next day her boss then asked her what is wrong with her and what medication she is on. I’m not an expert but it definitely sounds wrong for her to ask this maybe even illegal I’m not sure. i will try to keep this brief while still including all important info! to start: i (22F) am Very disabled, i was born disabled and then abused really badly by my dear old dad for most of my life so im pretty messed up (severe ptsd plus multiple disorders) tried to get on disability, couldn't, i dont even qualify for it anymore since too much time has passed since i stopped working. i worked a bunch of stuff growing up before i realized how disabled i am, and basically, it nearly killed me lol. anyway, i cant work any job that requires me to leave my house and i need to be able to set my own schedule. that alone is difficult to find. i cant work full time either, its too much for me. i tried to sell my art but its very difficult and im not exactly good…

Sad because it shows I have no life, and got trained for decades, as an IT, to sacrifice my week-end to remote work. Weird because since when corporations like Microsoft decided to care? Oh, it's also disturbing, because with the advent of cloud computing, this kind of intrusive electronic behavioral control attempts is most likely going to increase.

Throwaway account… Let me set the stage. I worked for a huge computer company, learned a ton of technical skills, then worked for a huge software company as a technical specialist. I left that job to be a stay at home dad for a while. 18 months later, I start interviewing for technical roles in another state. I get an interview at a small hosting company that would be supporting the technology I spent the last 10 years studying.
