I work as a Land Surveyor that I went back to school for at the age of 46. Worked for the same company since I graduated and enjoyed my job immensely as I got to work alone outside all day. I even worked outside in the brutal MN winters. I was working in a ditch today and was asked to come in for a meeting, which I thought was my performance eval. I was told that I am being let go as they hired someone with more experience than me. I was completely blindsided by this and my boss couldnt even look me in the eye. I can quit I can move to a different shift and take a pay cut. (They know I have kids and can’t take this shift) They offered a 4 week severance package IF I promise not to sue them. I told them I wanted 8 weeks. If you want me to sign something promising I won’t sue I must have something on them.

I don't in anyway begrudge #GenZ for their luck with the employment market right now. Employers have been treating employees like commodities for decades, and now the price of that commodity is rising. This is good for the you guys. (Inflation is going to screw over the boomer pensioners, but I've stopped caring about them. They never cared about us.) But I'm sick of hearing Gen Z'ers complain about it, as if they are not being handed an employment economy not seen since the boomers graduated college. Young adults are walking out of school with zero experience and multiple $65000 job offers. My company just offered a young guy with his masters and no experience $70k. I've been working in corporates for almost 6 years and I've sent 1000s of emails to clients and never had any issue or complaints about my English. All of a sudden, my manager believes my English is not good enough for business and mentioned that as my negative in my performance feedback. In my current job none of our clients ever complained about my English so far, but my manager is adamant that my English is poor and thinks only he is right.

I work 10 hour days construction 5 days a week and STILL CANT MAKE ENDS MEET. I feel like giving up and debt maxxing and trying to get on disability which shouldn’t be too hard to fake in my line of work.
