I know the point is anti-work, anticapitalism, and trust me, I'm all for it, but the fact remains that until then we need jobs to live. How the actual fuck do you gets get even half decent jobs? I've been struggling ever since I graduated college in 2018 to find something that isn't entry level retail or customer service. I've never had a job with benefits, and I'm poverty line. I want to be a writer, but no one will take a chance on me (I've been writing for over 10 years but don't have any publications and have never done writing work for a job before and my only “certification” is my English degree), even as like an entry level writer. I haven't been able to work since March, and my mental health is SO much better! I'm 'lucky' though, because I'm medically Disabled and have a bit of money still coming in, plus I have a working fiancé that I live with and that helps. Disability rules allow me to work part time—BUT my doctors have always recommended I not work at all due to my conditions. Disability isn't nearly enough to live on, though, so I was working 15 hours/ week until I slipped and fell last month and broke my right arm. At first I was so upset that I'd be unable to work, but the doctors are right–I should not be working. The fucking rat race that fully healthy people do would probably kill me, tbh. This was years ago when I just left college. I applied for a supermarket job (UK) stocking shelves on Nightshift. It was advertised as 36 hours a week at £7.00 per hour (this is way before minimum wage). I go to interview at a huge national store (sounds like hesco) 4 of us there, we are all given a questionnaire and told openly that it's just a personal choice thing to see how we would mesh in the job and there is no wrong answers. First 3 go in one at a time all leaving with a face showing anger. I go in interviewer goes through the questionnaire marking certain responses as “wrong answer” then tells me I have to join the union as they run a closed shop and that the job is afternoon shift and only 16 hours at £5. As the title I guess. I am applying for a new job due to my current boss being up themselves. I am a manager myself. I have already been asked to an interview tomorrow. However, I am concerned I walk into a similar environment (love the job, hate the boss). So is it too cheeky for me to ask for references of my potential new boss before accepting any position with them? The same way they'd ask for referees for me?

This is my 3rd day off ill in a row. My employer is asking me what symptoms I’ve got. I’ve told them it isn’t covid but they want to know what it is. It’s my understanding they have no right or reason to know at all. Only after 7 days can they ask for a doctors note and that period has actually been extended in January. Am I wrong?
